Anybody besides me watching 2007 Barrett-Jackson?

Wow!!I like cars alot and the auction is very entertaining and well executed. As well it's a great car show. But the prices are out there. It's like la-la land.Plus the 16% commission!!!!!

And last nite was just the first day with the "more affordable" cars!

Seems to me if you're shopping for a car there you gotta be one or any combination of the following:

1)Filthy rich

2)Not a very savvy shopper

3)A publicity whore

I mean....I have no problem with thinking my Vette is worth $50,000,but reality dictates something different.Tho it's tempting to think it might be worth the trip to Scotsdale or Palm Beach when I decide to sell it,I see cars in Hemmings all day long for half of what they sell for at Barrett-Jackson.

Discuss.

Been watching it...a couple Porsche's were on there. Nice to have money like that, but what's with almost all the cars being swirled?!

Very,very bright lites?

thing about barrett jackson is that those cars are what "collectors" go after. of course your vette isn't worth 50g's, but if it has the right option packages and matching numbers that will mean a lot to someone. For most of us, just having the 10,000 one on the local autotrader does the trick, but these people are just one step further up in the car collecting world. not to mention they drop 100+ grand on these old cars, when they could just buy a ford gt instead

I have tried that logic in my own head as well, but anything you can find at Barrett-Jackson you can find in Hemmings. The one thing I will say about Hemmings recently is that the pie in the sky mentality is bleeding over from Barrett-Jackson and there are some crazy prices in there as well. But also alot of deals to be had.

The reason that people are buying old cars vs. new cars is prolly three-fold.The depreciation years are long gone and they are investments that are appreciating if bought right.A new $100,000 car, even a Ford GT tho discontinued,is going to go down in value long before it comes back up.Second is the exclusivity/enthusiasts/collector factor. They aren't making any more 1970 Corvette convertibles or 69 Pontiac GTO's.Third is remembering the good old days when the next door neighbor had one when you were a kid.Who doesn't want to relive yesterdays youthful memories.
