Hello everyone!! I just bought a 1999 v70 XC last month. Today I was driving on the freeway and I felt I was driving on a bumpy road, I parked and check the tranny oil, it was low. Then I started the car, put it in gear and the rpm where going up and down, the brake pedal got hard ( like lossing vaccum on the booster) and there is a grinding noise coming near engine/tranny. Now it shift hard and I dont want to drive it any more. Any suggestions? should I change the fluid?

Any idea will help

Regards

Victor

take it back asap

tranny is going out

You are assuming he can take it back to where ever he bought it at.

At that age, it's a good bet it was a private party. After a month or even a day, it's his car folks.

I think you should take it back!!

try changing the fluid to the spendy stuff. it just may help.

if not.....$$$

the spendy stuff.

Getting Mobil 3309 from a Mobil dealers costs $50. That's for 12 quarts. Cheap if you ask me.

did this just suddenly happen or did it get progressively worse?

check for leaks under the car. check your axle boots, wheel bearings, center shaft baring (Graydons fave!!) and see if the bevel gear cars is all wet/dripping from fluid. The trans fluid, Bevel gear fluid and rear diff fluisd are all in different compartments. If you are missing trans fluid...see if you find leaks...and refill. could be the bevel gear maybe...but try and rule out the more $$ stuff first.
