So I just got my headunit installed and im itching to get a little bass to complement it. It has a sub-out port on the back of it. So what i was thinking about doing was getting one 400 watt 15" sub in the trunk, with a 400 watt amp. With wires I should still be under $150. Any other suggestions? I'd be glad to hear them...

ROFLMAO under a 150 ROFLMAO

more like 90 for wires, 400 for amp and 200 for sub a ?? for the box

15 would be over kill try 2-12

or get some quailty stuff and one 10 with a 400 watt amp will do the job

ya 150 is overkill for wires

what are you looking for in the sub? sound quality or spl? that will help you pick the size of the sub(s) and the type of box.

$150 for a sub, amp, wiring and a box ain't gonna happen Man, even if you get LEGACY stuff which is low end you are still @ $200 and probably won't be happy. My advice is do some serious investigating into what you are looking to get out of your system and go from there. I'm thinking if you want a 15" sub you are looking for the boom, and that's going to cost more than just a modest rear sub fill in most cases. Just my .02 ;)

What I don't understand is why you would want a 15", but only 400W. a 15 will take up a lot of space, and with only 400w, not have a ton of power. I would suggest you get a 500-750W 12" instead. Put it in a ported box if you need the extra boom.

No way in hell you're going to do any of this for < $300,

(ebay prices)

wiring (4ga) and fuse = $40

Decent amp = $150-$300

Decent Sub = $80-$250

Enclosure = build it yourself

If you search hard, you could probably find everything you need for $250, but like I said above, $300+ is much more realistic.

Determine what you want, and don't half-ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD it, because if you do, you'll regret it later, when you have a full system of stuff you don't really like.

and Re: the argument on 15s, I think it has more to do with the enclosure and tuning than anything - in car audio I've only heard 15s in ported boxes, and yes, no punch with any sort of a drum. However in home audio, I've heard much low-end clarity from speakers with 15" and even 18" components in them. A friend has DJ 2-way speakers with 18s and horns, and it's crisp across the board. However, by the time you get to 15s in cars, you're usually running ported for SPL purposes... Adam, aren't you running sealed 15s ? Perhaps that's why you disagree...

Edit, I see you just replied...

Yes, mine are sealed, but more importantly, the system was built, designed, and tuned by someone who had at least some idea of what they were doing. ;)

Originally, I was going to build a port, but I didn't have room enough for the internal volume. In the end I'm glad I didn't go through with the port I had designed, only because it makes the overall trunk cleaner without it.

hey, you're better off spending what seems like a lot of money first, to get quality products. quality wiring, speaker and amp. otherwise ul either be wanting to upgrade ur system 6 months down the track or ul be forced to buy more because of burnt voice coils or what not
