True, if you have no desire to learn, little time, and sufficient money, it may work out OK for you, but with a little bit of research, planning, and just plain ole' getting your hands dirty, you can almost always do a better job for less money. Some of the jobs I've seen form big-name installers have been OK, but others have been downright appalling. Most of the time you go in there, and ask for a "cheap as possible" system, they put the n00b techs on your cars - people perhaps know as much about car audio as you, and don't know any vehicle-specific knowledge. Some times they're OK, other times they're two days away from being let go. Every now and then you come in on a slow days and get one of the head guys doing your stuff. If you do research, use services like Froogle / Ebay, and shop around in general, you can almost always get better deals. Then you get to do a system how you like it, learn what you're doing, and save a bit of $$. I'm not trying to say doing it yourself is incredibly easy, but it's definitely not impossible.
