Getting Rid Of Climate Control

If it never's blown cold and you wouldn't mind using it . . . .

Why not try one of those cheap Interdymanics R134A charging kits with o-ring conditioner that come with the gauge? Maybe even put in small can of PAG oil as well to keep the compressor lubed before topping off the charge.

I know a lot of people frown on the stuff but least for me, it works, is cheap and easy to use.

When I bought my S90, no cold air at all, nothing. Topped off the charge with about a can and a half, has worked for nearly a year no problems, always extremely cold.

My 960's A/C stopped blowing cold, compressor wouldn't stay on. Topped off the charge by one can, worked perfectly for about a year and still working perfectly before I sold it.

When I bought my 850T the A/C would cycle off regularly and not get that cold, topped it up, extremely cold.

For me, even if there was somehow a 10HP gain, I wouldn't get rid of it. It may save a tiny bit of weight and improve flow to the intercooler a bit. However it's not going to do anything to drastically improve performance. If you don't want the compressor dragging down engine power, it's simple, shut the A/C/ECC off so it doesn't cycle. Removing it is also going to reduce resale value if you decide to sell it and during hot days when cruising and not racing, you're probably going to regret it. I remember not having A/C for a while in a couple Volvo I drove, I hated it and wouldn't go back, even if it somehow resulted in a few additional HP.
