Its my fault , i got lazy yesterday . I didnt want to deal with radiator fluid disposal. so I went to local Speedyluber and paid 50 simolians for flush and fill. 3 miles down road radiator warning lamp comes on. Gauge looks aok, for now. 2 miles from home, on the hill to my house, the gauge pins! Get in the driveway and sprint for gallon of 50-50 i have in basement, at the same time dialing and screaming at Dopeyluber for killing my car. Get back to car, and it sucks up the whole gallon. Gauge goes to normal, sigh of relief, wife thinks i'm REALLY nuts now. No steam, from block or tail pipe. It seems to run well. This morning after wicked cold nite, I checked dipstick. Some white on end. Checked fillcap. Some white on cap. I'm nervous something covert has happened to my engine, and will show up at worse possible time. Yeah, I tore buttocks down there and got my money back. Called my bro in-law, he said Stupidluber air locked the system and no fluid got in after old stuff got sucked out. What a maroon!! <_< ANYway, does anyone believe there is damage? I ran total of 6 miles no faster than 40mph.mostly less.

Thankfull Tanker

PS--I had just changed oil for fresh synthetic 500 miles ago. may have saved me. T. B)

I am pretty sure that if you over heated your car would not be running right now. We have a car in the shop right now that is getting a new engine due to the exact same problem.

BS!!!.... these engines are rugged, you know how many old people drive these 850 and v70 wagons to there death, because they read the manual AFTER the car dies to figure out that the little light ment there was no oil? ive seen people run these cars without oil and people that have run them hot for days. I did an engine a few weeks back after a ladie ran her car for 3+ days while it was boiling coolent everywhere..i drove it in and out of the shop just fine given it ran like sh*t but she drove just fine..

So most likly your fine but i would get it checked out ASAP and the white $hit is just from the cold most likly...

The white gunk is usually moisture build up from cold weather and short trip usage. It burns off with a longer run. However, it may be a tip-off to clean your PCV system. In my experience, this build up is very light if the PCV is running properly, as it is pulling the moisture out and preventing a build up. If it is getting blocked, it will cause lots of other problems as well, so worth a quick check.

these car can take alot,so your probably ok,take this as a lesson DONT TAKE YOUR CAR TO THOSE CRACK HEAD DUMBASSES AT JIFFY TUNE,LUBO-pokes AND MIDAS ASSHOLES ,THEY DONT KNOW stuff ABOUT THESE CARS AND HALF THE TIME THEY WILL LEAVE THE OIL DRAIN PLUG LOOSE!.so next time do it yourself or take it to a Volvo specialist.what happens on these cars is when you drain all the coolant and you refillit you will almost always have a large air bubble you have to drive it and recheck the level and refill it , real shops use a vaccume refill system :monkey:

The lesson--and its been taught too many times-- is don't trust a bunch of nutsacks to service your car. Do it yourself, go to the dealer or a reputable indy, but never go to a quick-lube place--EVER. You're better off putting the service off til' you can have it done elsewhere.

It seems all is well. Fluid level is holding, white stuff minimal. Crackhead Nutsack? That is terribly funny  . Lesson well taken. I just received my PCV kit from FCP. As soon as cold breaks i will attempt it. Intake removal is my only issue. I think i have all the right tools. Any input tool wise to help remove a bitch bolt? Oil change also even though i really just did it.

the system wasn't airlocked, it was filled to high and boiled over, thats why it runs ok now

If you hadn't driven home and let it cool off, it would have been ok, but once coolants boiling, it keeps boiling.

Thats my 2c I have made that mistake many times

you would think I would learn...

edit:this was definitely not an airlocked coolant system running dry or you would have been on side of road.

I wouldn't worry about your HG at this point, the guy filled it to HOT and it boiled over and it boiled away to the point where it was below the CLS.

Simple as that.

You're likely just fine. Let me know if you want the oil sampled and checked for debris or water/coolant. That's what I do.

Thanks for the offer--so far so good but whats a service like that cost? awesome support for someone like me -- but i am learning fast about these cars. with the right tools and the instructions there is not to much i wont attempt--besides if i screw up my indy is only 2 miles away!! i have a stock pile of new parts to install--no garage so i have to wait for the weather to get above 40f to work on car. although i did do an oil change a month ago at 9pm and below freezing-- new oil and filter had arrived that PM and i couldnt wait--kid at Christmas dont you know. since getting my compresor and tools i have been chomping at the bit to do work. i never cared for a car like i do this one, especially on the performance side, so much cool stuff to do-- if i get a little extra hp and a well handling, quiet ride i will be satisfied. my kid keeps busting my nuts that its "just a wagon dad, a freaking station wagon for crying out loud!" once i blast his stupid Nissan out he'll be beggin for one of these! this summer i'm dumping my wifes Intwerpid and getting her into a late 90's sedan, and Teen Angel will get an N/A sedan--no turbo for wise guy!! B) any way time to go put away my new torx sockets and put the Seafoam on the shelf-- thanks again you guys are awesome, like counselors. any input on tools for intake removal?

Tanker

ps where can i get Volvo tools-- sub frame bushing removal/install particularly.. . T

any input on tools for intake removal?

do some searching there are a bunch of threads from last fall where the exact tools for intake removal are listed. The nasty left-hand (passenger side) lower bolt needs a certain 1/4 drive with extension and swivel to make it cake ... check posts by RussB ...
