Cold Weather...intercooler Issues. :(

Hi all,

Recently here in Minnesota where the weather has been from -15 to 10 for the last few weeks my car has been not starting. It turns over for a long time and finally just konks out. After further inspection it turned out that my upper intercooler hose would collapse.

My mechanic said that this happens because of the drainage hole in the intercooler freezing in cold weather. Then it gets clogged and the car won't start.

The hose is a silicon one from Stylinmotors so I'm not 100% if these have collapsing issues or not.

No heated garage, I've been putting it in there anyway though.

Do you have any thoughts on what to do? I need this car on a daily basis and this is getting really frusterating. Had it towed the second time in two weeks yeterday for another $125. :(

Thanks!

What a bummer! I don't have the answer for you, but thanks for the heads up, as we're getting the same stuff here in Michigan. So far my wag's starting and running fine, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I've been dealing with cold weather for a while, and usually things stiffen up in the cold...

Your I/C hose collapsing due to cold sounds kinda wierd. Did you discover this or did the

mechanic tell you about it? If it's his call, I'd be thinking about a second opinion...

I've started mine at -50F...Stock I/C hoses, no garage. Of course, I have several heaters that I plug in

to keep the engine warm (warmer!), but she always cranks right up. Love the heated seats!!!

Have you checked for fuel and spark while cranking? Pull a plug and check it out. Oldies but goodies...

Good luck! Stay Warm!
