AnthonyR
Alright, ever since the manual swap I have realized that the factory linkages are poop. they seem to bend and flex all over the place. I dunno, maybe I got a bunk set of linkages, but I can't shift fast into two and reverse can be nearly impossible to slip into at times as well and come to think of it all the lower half of the gate just don't feel right (prolly cause the pushing is causing the cable to flex), and other times there is a just a general sponginess than I really don't like.So... Anyone have any ideas?
prasamin
i have the same problem going into reverse sometimes....just doesn't want to go in sometimes, and then I have tp go through the gears really quick, and it'll go into reverse easily.i figure they just don't want you to pop into reverse so quickly

prasamin
next time, let off the clutch a bit and give it a little gas, it'll pop right in.sure thing....i'll make sure there is a bus coming behind me at full speed at the same time too just to make it more interesting. Oh... wait... YOU ARE!I do it all the time. From my experience, it's not shifter linkages, but synchros not lining up.Edit, it is now my understanding that there are not any synchros on the reverse gear, so this is probably the cause of the hard shift into reverse. AnthonyR
Yeah, I've gotten the reverse trick down too, but shifting fast into second is impossible, the cable literally flexes and bends when I try to move fast into second. That sounds more like a personal problem. I've power shifted 2nd tons of times. All it does is result in a massive smoke show, no real use on street tires. Keaton85
Maybe the bushings on the ends of your shift linkage is shot(tranny side)... I havnt had one single problem getting into any gear even if im shifting fast into 2nd. My linkage came out of my parts car so its not brand new either... maybe its just because i have an M56L and you all have M56Hs...haha....(thats gonna start some yelling)
Geevs
The car won't move at all jerk hat unless you're an idiot and rev the motor up to 5k and drop the clutch. Oh... wait... YOU ARE!I do it all the time. From my experience, it's not shifter linkages, but syncros not lining up.Same symptom here and this is with factory installed M59. Shifting into reverse can be tricky at times (esp when tranny's cold) and downright annoying. As Greg said, a little throttle blip to line up the synchros does the trick and is the safe thing to do to preserve the synchros from further wear.Have no problems fast shifting to 2nd, though. meatman10523
i agree the reverse is probably syncros, double clutching usually solves the problem. but the shifting does feel like jerk, do any companies make poly bushings for the shifter? they make a b&m shifter for the v70 right, can i take the whole shifter box thingy out of a v70 and put it in an 850??? the shifter is prob my least favorite part about the car

spottieottie
It's not the linkage, it's the syncros. My cables are new and they still do it. Not as much when the tranny was just put in but some drag events and the P.O.S. EST SS have caused some syncro wear.
AnthonyR
Yeah, I was thinking of if the short shifter could be causing some of the problems, but I'm not really seeing how it could.
