Turbo Blown - Oil Lines Plugged?

Just looking for experience here. A friend with a "well maintained", original owner '98 V70 GLT with 140k just replaced his LPT turbo. Dealer serviced all of its life, at one of our best reputation service dealers. Dealer's mechanic said that the turbo blew because "the oil lines got plugged up due to all of the short trip use the car gets" despite teh regular oil change history. I haven't come across that version of a turbo failure, but one of ours gets very similar short trip use in cold weather. Does this "oil line plugging up" sound reasonable to anyone, assuming regular oil changes? The car is driven by a middle aged lady school teacher, never pushed hard, but seldom out on the highway either.

There's not really any good (or accurate) answer to your question. In general driving a car only short distances with no highway driving is bad for it. The oil will develop moisture and get contaminated. Couple that with the probability the turbo is probably seldom if ever used because it doesn't kick in until 3500 RPM or so and you have a recipe for failure. Have the little old lady school teacher put her foot in it a few times a week and the car (and turbo) will be much happier.
