Which Calipers To Build A Bbk?

I agree the top calipers do. The bottom ones don't. But if he plans to use CJ's calipers, call CJ and check the part numbers. The part numbers are stamped on the back of the caliper IIRC. The part numbers are 993.351.425.10 for the left caliper and 993.351.426.10 for the right caliper. If these aren't the part numbers, CJ has stated he can't guarantee that they will work with his brackets.

Greg, yes he plans to use CJ's brackets per the final sentence in the original post.

Yeah, I went back and read that. The bottom caliper looks like a rear caliper to me.

hmmm, so why do people run Porsches then??? Wouldnt brakes bias be present??

Bias/balance and pedal travel feel OK. Downside is the weight distribution of at least my S70 which must be something like 65/35..

De pedal travel with the Porsche calipers at the front remains pretty much the same if not better. The pedal is firm and travel is considerably less compared to a stock S60R brake setup using similar sized Brembo calipers front and rear. For me a short travel/firm pedal gives better feel for brake threshold, for others a longer travel is more ideal. At the track I hardly run in to the ABS. Slow ABS pulsation can be noticed on the rear axle but full ABS engagement I think only happened ones when I hit a bump under full braking through a corner, not a nice thing to experience but a quick lift and reengage solved that hairy issue.

The rear brakes are always closer to lock than the fronts, rear have more bite. Rear is stock with Volvo "short life" pads btw. Maybe a larger caliper in the rear would soften this behavior but I'm afraid it will add travel to the pedal and disturb the way I sometimes try to balance the car under power using the brakes. With the current suspension setup I think the dive is controlled pretty OK now. At the Ring I found the balance of the S70 under braking to be better than the S60R but the S60R is heavier. It still would dive and lift the rear making the rear feel a lot more floating or hovering in the rear. Advanced 4C setting doesn't use anti dive logic btw, only when using Comfort or Sport.

SO what do u think it would do to my V70R? if i were to do a 4piston on all 4 wheels????

you should first upgrade to 2000R rear brakes, then go from there.

there was a lengthy thread not only about brake bias, but about which ones will work. i distinctly remember the non turbo 993 calipers not working because they are designed smaller OD rotor than the 13" s60r rotors.

Here's the thread http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php?showtopic=41258 found in teh noob thread <_<

I've seen 996 rear calipers work on the rear of a p1 platform tho, so it def can be done. IIRC the problem with the 996 front calipers is that they would require a huge spacer to clear the wheel. that could be overcome with a custom offset rotor hat for a two piece rotor in conjuction with custom mounting brackets tho, so at this point it seems like anything could work.

I can tell you 4-piston calipers on the front will stop like nobody's business. I love it. You aren't going to get 4-piston calipers on the rear unless CJ finally builds a kit or you go custom. Finally, if you are able to get 4-piston calipers all the way around, you are going to need a full size spare.

Is there really any interest? I built AWD downpipes and well lets just say I am not working 'til midnight everyday to keep up with demand.

id say there would be more people interested in brakes then DP. CJs DPs are top quality, but the price really is backbreaking if ur not doing too many mods. id rock one for sure CJ!!!!

I picked up a set of brembo calipers off a 06' cadillac cts-v. Painted silver, look very close to the stop techs. I got them all for 650. 4 piston all around. They have a different mounting to them. they have casted brackets that drop down and look like they will be very easy to bolt up with just some thick plate and some drilled holes. I will be trying to mock them up soon. I will post pic's. The casted brackets look like the rear black calipers at the begining of the post they just drop further. So I figure with some time materials and rotors I will be up and running for about 1400 for all 4 corners.
