Hilton
I would really like a new cam cover/retainer. I had mine powdercoated blue and I am not happy with the way that it turned out. It's off right now anyway, so I could buy another one and stick it on instead.I know someone's got one on a shelf.
dmelviØØ7
They are typically machined together and are not meant to be swapped out. But if you are willing to give it a try I might be willing to part with the one I have for the right price. It's off of a 95 NA

BlackT5
Hope it doesn't cause your cams to bind up. Could be a whole lot of trouble to get rid of your colored cam cover. Can't you strip the powder coat off?
Keaton85
The head and the cam cover are made to fit as one... i wouldnt get a used one and install it or you are going to have a whole lot of trouble at hand..

I have read too many threads on message boards about people who have switched them and it all ended in engine failure, but people learn by their own mistakes. If you look at how the head is cast you wouldnt be able to get a uniform cast in every head where the cams ride. I think that covers it...
dmelviØØ7
Well this means I get to keep mine as a wall display piece. I love it!!
Gioseppe
lol.yes, they are a matched set. when the factory line bored the cam journals they become matched. it would be possible to re line-bore a new cover to match (i already went over this with my machinist) but it's a hassle.buuuut certainly don't swap a different one on there without doing any machine work! i pulled the cam cover off the engine of mine that got toasted andthe cam journals were severly scored from the fit being too tight. But I woulden't suggest it. Some covers may just be a closer fit, depending on the batch when it was made. But what are the chances of getting a used one made in the same batch? Might want to have the powder coat sand blasted.
