Socal
I was poking around under the car, looking at my front engine mount, and I happended to notice what I thought was some gunk on my crank pully. It turned out to be a finger width long bite out of the pully... Should I be worried about this chewing the timing belt up?
caliwagon
...Would only affect the serp. belt, not the t-belt. I wouldn't worry about it--just change your s-belt at the regular intervals
Socal
dur... I remember thinging about how odd it was that t-belt was routed towards the front of the car where the accessory pullys are, but nothing in my head put it together. Anyway, I guess that allays my fear of catastrophic timing belt failure.None the less, what the hell? How do you so neatly take a chunk out like that? prasamin
something may have gotten lodged in there for a second and taken a chunk out. not much to worry about with the serp belt, although that point may help wear it out more quickly, so make sure you inspect it regularly and change it when needed. Mesoam
that bend looks like it has a sharp edge on it...if your serp belt breaks your car doesn't run, well it should for a little while till your battery diesi'de say look for a replacement, one shouldn't be too expensive as people are rarely looking for them
MadeInJapan
I'd say the mechanic who did a TB change before, trying to get the belt over that crank pulley did it. No way a belt or even a small amount of debris could do that. At the very least I would try to get the sharp edge off of it.
