giantrobot9000
So I had an idiot taxi driver change lanes right into my driver's side, and damage my bumper, front fender and both doors. It is all cosmetic, but when I dropped the car off at the body shop (who work on Volvos a lot) said depending on the value of my car and price of the parts, there is a chance the insurance company may try to total it.I called the local dealer myself and got retail prices for the parts I know it needs. This came to around $1500.I'm not sure what paint and labor will run.She said 70% of value is the mark where they can total a car.Private-party KBB for my car is $6900,but I'm pretty sure they don't use this for value. What migh suck is I already had the car up for sale locally for $7200 and had someone very interested. She said if they repair it,they will only paint the new body panels,so my paint isn't gonna match anymore, which I will surely notice and I'm not too cool with that, and neither will the guy interested. If they offer me enough and I can buy my car back cheap enough, that might be the best scenario.I'm not really sure what I'm asking here....I guess if anybody has gone through something similar,if it sounds like they want to total it or fix it,what the total bill could be....anything! :D

By referring to "She", I am assuming you are either referring to the insurance company or the body shop. Either way, you better fight that with insurance or go to a different body shop because no one should be just painting the parts. The paint needs to be matched and blended into the surrounding panels when being painted.
