Anybody Use Infinity Basslink?

Just wondering if anyone has tried the Basslink in their wagon. I thought about adding a sub but if I did, I'd custom it to the rear of my cargo area. That being said, it can get quite costly (custom labour, sub, amp). So Basslink is an all in one and small footprint sub and I heard generally good reviews. Curious if anyone has one and what they think.

I was speaking to the owner of a local custom car audio shop and he was completely against it. He could not get over the fact that people had bought them and a few brought them in to show him. According to him, the sound is not good and a comparable high end 10" sub in a small box will put it to shame. Also I believe that the cone is made out of paper which may not hold up well against climate changes.

I was considering getting a basslink, but for around the same money I think I will get a small box and recess it as best as possible in the side of my trunk.

Just my opinion though, and I was close to buying a basslink as I read all of the good reviews. If you get a chance to hear before buying then you would be in a better position.

what. I hate it when people bash on paper cones. Just because it is paper does not mean it is bad. You will find that most Audiophile grade home audio speakers use paper cones.

It is just as easy to have a Cheap plastic cone as it is to have a Cheap paper cone.

You know what, I bet the guy telling you how bad the Basslink systems are does not carry them. If he did I am sure he would sing a different Note.

I had an 8" Bazooka Tube in my RX-7 and it was spectacular. Easily fit where the spare tire went. Great sound and easy to take out if required. I also had a Rockford Fosgate Punch 75 to power it. BTW, those old Punch Amps before MOSFET were AWESOME.

If the Basslink will do what you want it to do and costs less than the other options, then do it and don't let people Raz you about it.

I have an Infinity Basslink and I'm not impressed with it at all really...

My friend's 8" Rockford sounds better than the infinity in my opinion but then again that may be because he is in a slightly smaller car.

I think I'm going to go with a high end 10 or 12..

first of all, i completely agree with the statement about paper cones, treated paper cones are by no means an inferior cone material than poly, or "tatanium" or what ever fancy ones peoeple claim nowadays, treated paper cones have a very high weight to rigidity ratio which makes them great stuff for cones.

anyway, onto the infinity basslink, well, its hard for me to say what is good, and hwat its not, cause something i may not find enough may be perfect for someone else. but i will say this, for just a little more than what a basslink retails for, i can build a 10" sub with a box and a amp stuck on the back of it, and it will definetly outperform the basslink in all aspects.

Yah, too bad you live in Pennsylvania or something from my memory. If I was within driving distance, for sure I'd go to you man.

Okay, you all convinced me, save a bit more money and do it right. Bing_0, have you ever build an enclosure on the right side of the wagon, utilizing that space, will that fit a 10" sub?

well, that was my original plan for my car, but I then decided to go all stealth in the trunk well...

it would not be hard in execusion, just take a bit of work, if you are interested in getting one built for you, or explanation on how to build one, pm me...

What do you do for a spare? Or are you the daring type that doesn't carry one?

I drive at least 75 miles a day and through some rough parts of Atlanta... Not looking to leave the car or be stuck for long.

hehe, well, i havent had a spare in any of my vehicles for about 10 years now. And I live in the north east where hte roads are worse...never had an issue..

two thigns are there on stand by, two cans of fixaflat, and a AAA card. but I do have the option to simply throw my spare in the trunk area if I am taking a long road trip into uncharged territory :)

if you think about it, quite a few cars nowadays dont come with spares, corvettes and Rx8s are two that comes immediately to mind...

i used to not like the rx8 unti li had a change to drive one for a week...and I have to say, it totally hcanged my mind, aside from the lack of torque, the transmission, suspension, and overall balance of the car is phoenomenal...a join to toss around...

the interior is also classy and tasteful, if only the car can have 50 ft/lbs more torque, I would pick this over a 350z or g35...:)

  • 2 weeks later...

I've got a Basslink and am pretty happy with it. I have always been against "prepackaged" subs (always built my own bass modules) as I never felt they provided good sound. then one day as I was sitting on my couch watching a surround sound movie I looked at the floor and what do I see? A prepackaged bass module. I never thought about it but I've been enjoying one in my living room for years. Technology marches on so maybe they're better now. So, instead of builiding myself another huge bass module I thought I'd try the Basslink. (Just don't buy it at Crutchfield as you can find the MUCH cheaper).

Anyway, to make a long story short I'm pretty impressed. Fairly good bass. I'm not looking to piss off the neighbors so it's a good unit for me. Self contained so install is fairly easy and doesn't take up a bunch of room.

Insofar as the paper cone thing? I feel that each material will give you a different type of sound. So, figure out what kind of bass you like. Rumbly? Punchy? Tight? Paper is good if you want a nice punchy bass as it is light and can move quickly. Just my $.02. Now I'll run for cover and let the audio philes take over....

John.
