Sounds good to me. I know I wont win anything but thats ok. Someone will and they better be grateful for it.

+1. after reading this thread I feel that it would be quite arbitrary to pick a winner (most quality posts? by whose standard?) , and the bias will certainly be towards those with more heavily modified cars, but hey. whatever it takes to keep the site quality.

MY STANDARDS!

Sounds like the mods will decide what is quality and what is not so great. We all know what quality posts look like and we should all have a great idea of what crappy posts look like. There may be a bit of bias in there but if the mods dont like you, its probably because you make bad posts. Thats just how I see it, maybe its not this way.

in all honesty, the information on this site alone is a gold mine, i dont see why you should have to offer up incentives to make the members happy.

how many people come here, then leave because they dont like what they see ? and really should their be any type of monetary incentive to have those kind of people stay ?

i dont really see this idea as bringing in new members that wouldnt come to begin with, but then again; money is money and im not complaining if you're gonna give it away.

instead of awarding money, why not make a post ranking system.. as a member contributes beneficial knowledge to the site a mod rates every post that said member records.

eventually this will determine a user value rating that would show how much credibility this member may or may not have, that way others will be aware if the information has meaningful relevance or is just pure BS.

I am not using it as a recruiting method. I am using it as a way to disperse extra money that is mad. You are here to support the site. Thats why you post, comment, and at times even argue. The banners are hear the fund the site. You have to deal with them and I am doing this as a way of saying its not un noticed. For years I have used the extra funds on the moderators. Its not much but there is a little left over each month and I was trying to show that your dealing with the banners and ads was not un-noticed.

I think it's a great idea... it's like a thank-you for dealing with the banners and such. I don't think the possibility of wining something would keep people around that don't want to be here.

I will just give out tshirts to the winners

Hell I'll take a t shirt (something in dark blue please, anything else makes my ass look fat?)

A few V/S decals would be nice for my cars as well

I don't want to sound ungrateful but I still think you should either A) keep the cash for yourself or B) put the money towards a "gift" rather then cash. I think you've accomplished a hell of a lot to get this site at it's current position and you shouldn't feel obligated to give anybody anything. The reason people help out so much is exactly that: to help out others. They're not expecting to get anything in return (except maybe a little respect). I can't stop you from handing out free cash and I know other people want me to shut up about the topic. I'm not that helpful when it comes to repairs or modifications nor was I ever expecting anything from this site other then information and the occasional group buy. Volvospeed gives back to the community as a place where people can get connect with each other about topics that they have in common. No award plans are necessary as long as everybody is having a good time. Those that aren't having a good time should simply leave or adapt.

i think we should have an award for the best"""in the spirit of VS"""

ie. less than a year ago i didn't even know how to change my own oil

in may greg showed me how to do my rotors and pads.

recently i've done most of my car(except engine internals and tranny) replacement with only the help of this site.

i nominate myself. haha.
