S80 T6 Exhaust

Hey everyone, I'm close to upgrading the exhaust on my '01 S80 T6 and I'm just wondering what you all think.

I've been thinking about this setup:

3" downpipe (x2 cause of twin turbo?)

2.5" catback with Magnaflow mufflers

I have a private muffler shop with a good rep in mind for the custom installation but I am just worried about the noise. S80's are sooooooo quiet stock, so I definitely want to give it a nice, deep tone. I just don't want it to be too loud, since I do a pretty good amount of highway driving. Will Magnaflow mufflers be a bit too loud with this setup or what do you all recommend?

i would go with 2.5 downpipes, one for each turbo (remember these are only fed by 3 cylinders you don't need much) and 3 inch catback. the stock setup (at least mine) had two mufflers. you can add three with the optional OEM support hanger.

the turbos each have a right angle mendrel bend that mates with the downpipe. just match those.

Thanks for the replies, I'll probably go with Magnaflow.

I'm still learning the he technical aspects of it, so bear with me. For the catback, are you saying two 3" for each side? I don't know the exact mechanics of it but would going from 2.5" downpipe to 3" catback be a problem? (backpressure, etc?) And I'm guessing that I would just have two Magnaflow mufflers, one for each side. How did your stock setup have two mufflers and what do you mean with adding three?

no problem. here's a picture of what you're shooting for:

there are two turbos. each is connected to only 3 of the 6 cylinders. the downpipe, is really a dual downpipe complete with two cats. at the bottom they are connected together into a larger collector. then a flange to a single larger exhaust system. some kits have three mufflers inline. some are two.

Well, the Vivaperformance downpipes are a bit too much money for me so I'm just looking for something custom. But if I was going to do a custom job, you would recommend this then?

Two 2.5" downpipes that are connected together at the bottom that go into

Two 3" cats that end with 1 (or more?) Magnaflow muffler for each cat.

If this sounds okay, what kind of Magnaflow muffler would you suggest? When I'm just browsing through their website, the amount of mufflers they have is a bit overwhelming. I'm looking at the stainless steel with tips street series:

Any suggestions on which one?

i don't understand this. the setup should be two down pipes each with a cat, afterward connected together into a single exhaust system. the exhaust system goes down the mid-channel. you can fit something like 8 inch tubular mufflers in the channel, and a tailpipe muffler at the end. my exhaust pipe it hidden behind the rear skirt with a downfacing cut on the tailipipe.

Ah, I got it now. Thanks ;)

I spoke with the guy at my muffler shop and he said that the only problem is fitting a muffler in the channel in the middle. He didn't think that there were any Mangaflow mufflers that could fit into that space without being too low (the stock one that is on there is basically flattened at the bottom). I see Hondas, Acuras, Eclipses, etc. all the time that have their muffler hanging really low at the bottom, so is this really that much of a problem?

I have to check on the actual dimensions again but you said that an 8 inch muffler would be okay in the channel? If so, do you have any links or ideas of one that would fit? I know that EST and Heico have exhaust systems for the S80 so they must fit it in somehow without being too low, does anyone with these or other exhaust systems on the S80 have the dimensions of the muffler that goes down the channel?

no idea what magna flows are available. i guessed from recollection about 8 inch. probably less. i'll try to measure mine next week when it's on the lift. you don't want to hang low, it looks.. well stupid :) vivaperformance.com has a picture of the rest of the ferrita exhaust system

I think you just answered your own question.

haha, I guess I did, I was just wondering if there were any problems with it besides looking stupid and tacky.

no problem, just waiting to the tranny to come in. then work will start.

By the way, did you find a somewhat different tranny that could fit the S80? Or did you just order a stock one, and how much did it cost you?
