S80 T6 Exhaust

By the way, did you find a somewhat different tranny that could fit the S80? Or did you just order a stock one, and how much did it cost you?

i have only found one transmission (4T65EV-GT) that fits the T6 in an S80 chassis without modification. if you put the block in a different chassis you have more options. it's also possible to have a trusted transmission shop do a clutch/band upgrade. or you can have a speciality shop (www.levelten.com) upgrade it. some people have done it on other cars like 850's with different transmissions with moderate success.

i bought a new one, and kept the old one to have it rebuilt/upgraded over the summer.

the T6 has a strong torque slope which only gets more dramatic with an ECU upgrade. this contributes to the perception that the 4T65 is more prone to failure than would otherwise be expected. you can also expect to hear other uncorrelated, statistically insignificant anecdotal hearsay to bolster this unsubstatiated opinion. :monkey:

shiney new transmission is ready to install. yay!

the exhaust is 3 inch from the flange to the endpipe. i have three muffler componets (which is similar to the setup on S80 N/A's i've seen). the tubular mufflers that ride down the center of the car are about 3 feet long and 6 inch round in front, and 8 inch oval in rear. the final endpipe muffler is one of the large short ovals.

And thanks for the dimensions, I did decide I would probably just hold off and save up some more money while doing some cheaper cosmetic stuff to the car. By the time I have more money saved up I'll probably purchase an exhaust system from EST, Heico, Ferrita, or wherever.

Does anyone know anything about the sound, quality, and performance of the exhaust systems from EST, Heico, and Ferrita? (Besides the fact that they're expensive )

Hey everyone, I'm close to upgrading the exhaust on my '01 S80 T6 and I'm just wondering what you all think.

I've been thinking about this setup:

3" downpipe (x2 cause of twin turbo?)

2.5" catback with Magnaflow mufflers

I have a private muffler shop with a good rep in mind for the custom installation but I am just worried about the noise. S80's are sooooooo quiet stock, so I definitely want to give it a nice, deep tone. I just don't want it to be too loud, since I do a pretty good amount of highway driving. Will Magnaflow mufflers be a bit too loud with this setup or what do you all recommend?

Click on the link to my exhaust and you'll know what an S80 sounds like uncorked. I went HARDCORE on mine though. I diticed both resonators and side exit muffler for just one single magnaflow glasspack. That's it. At low speeds it drives me mad with the resonance but the exhaust note it gives off when I mash it makes it worthwhile.
