Recommended Posts

Hey guys, Im new to the forum and to volvos in general. I bought a 00' S80 T6 last week and im in the process of planning out what i'm going to do to it and I was hoping to see what you goys have done to yours. Any suggestions as far as performance/ suspension/ visual upgrades would be welcome as well.

Welcome to Volvospeed! Yeah, there are some modded S80 T6's on here (which I am sure will soon find their way to this thread and comment) so hopefully you'll get some good info. Take Rob (S7013g)'s advice and figure out what you want out of your car and how much $$ you have to work with. Post up some pics of your ride!

I'll try to post pics as soon as I can, weathers been kinda crappy lately. This will be a long term project (arent they all) so at the moment budget isnt the issue. As far a goals, I want to put on a nice set of 17 or 18in wheels(already has 17in factory mesh) Modest drop while preserving ride quality, some sort of grille mod( id like to see whats possible). As far a performance im thinking Intake system, exhaust(NOT loud or ricey, just a subtle rumble and hopefully a performance gain) and associated pieces like cat and downpipe, and some sort of ecu upgrade. My inital goal without doing a whole lot of research is roughly 280-300hp @ the wheels (Is this reasonable or attainable) without sacrificeing driveability as this is a daily driver. Id love to hear from you guys what you would recomend- mild or wild- i want to explore all options. This isnt my first buildup- My previous cars were a 90 Acura Integra sedan, 91 Acura Legend coupe, and a 94 Honda Accord coupe(beater budget project). I am a DIY type of guy so the more I can do the better

Thanks for the help in advance and i look forward to getting to know you guys in the future

18's will be to smal on an s80 imo. s80's are executive whips. do cosmetic stuff not so much engine. rims and lowering as well as some small contrasting paint in certain places will make the car look unbeleivable.

The S80 is a large, executive styled car, so naturally the best modding approach would be the "executive" or "VIP" style. Unfortunately this means forking over a large sum of money for some bitchin and expensive baller rims and a nice drop. Other than that, its all you need on the exterior. For the engine theres an ecu upgrade you can go with as well as a nice quiet and subtle free flowing exhaust system. Do those light few mods and I think youd have an incredible looking car.

I typed up a HUGEE response on EVERYTHING.. tranny, turbos, wheels, suspension, tuning, DP, exhaust.. and that is all of it that posted... :monkey:

Type it again please?

But yeah, I'm going to be putting in some mods this summer. I'm putting in the 8000k HIDs tomorrow, getting some 15-25% tint and I'm planning on doing some sort of custom exhaust system soon (possibly with ECU). I'm also in the process of searching for some nice wheels (maybe 18" pegs if I can't find anything I like better) and once I get the wheels I'll tune the suspension (lowering, IPD sways, endlinks, etc)

I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

Thanks for the great feedback guys. I looked at juinebunie's s80 and that car is the definition of clean! The 18in pegs look great with the drop and thats the stance I had in mind. Yeah, I do realize vip is the way to go with this car and for the most part I plan to go that style with a little of my own flair(sorry, just got done watching office space).

Heres a list of my inital mods planned(next few months to a year? hopefully?)

Tint

Led bulbs for brake lights(already on the way)

Smoked tails with the turn/backup area left clear

6500k ish Hid's

Springs/struts/swaybar etc

Depending on when the tires i have now wear out mabey 18in pegs or chrome wheels(id go bigger but i dont make tons of money to afford new 20in tires every year or two)

Modded grille( i might try to create my own- if i succede i will post a diy if anyone is interested)

Boost gauge

Exhaust/downpipe(i could use some ideas as to which brands work well for volvos to get worthwhile power gains and still remain fairly quiet (as in not honda civic or el camino loud)

Ecu upgrade

Intake system(are there any reasonably priced systems out there or had anyone successfully fab'd up their own?)

Upgraded rotors/pads

I was also thinking of getting the gray moldings and lips painted silver to match the rest of the car, would you agree or just leave it the way it is?

Whats a good ballpark price for a set of 18in pegs in perfect condition, no blemishes?
