I Had A Sad Realization Today

Trying to make my Volvo go fast is stupid. Yesterday I got to test drive a 2007 Subaru WRX STI. One of 800 in North America, I think. Everyting about that car is amazing. Subaru has everything Volvo has, only better. It's sad because I love my car.

I also test drove a 95 T-5R down at the dealership. I must say, I was extremely dissappointed. When we were pulling back into the dealership I realized it was is friggen economy mode.:arob: I didn't want to bother them anymore since I wasn't going to buy the car anyway so I just left it at that.

Ok, so, you think that making your volvo go fast is stupid. That is your own problem. It is not stupid. It may not be easy, or fun for that matter... But when you make a volvo something better than stock, it is not something you see very often. You end up with something unique. You may have driven something faster, but its newer. Wow. Newer technology *usually* works better. It will be faster. After that car comes over here is will not be one in 800, thats for sure. They will be everywhere. A fast volvo will never be everywhere. Not everyone with a volvo mods their car. It is a tradeoff, yes, but we realize that. That is why we enjoy our cars. And for the record, on the highway most of the well done volvos on this board could smoke a STI.

I don't think he realizes why its nice to have a semi-fast volvo. people give you props because its something you don't see everyday. how many STis do you see around town compared to modified volvos? hahaha. exactly.

Ontop of all of this...STI's are hella fast...but when it comes to comfort and luxury, its not always there. Try taking an STI on a 7hr drive and then your volvo on a 7hr drive. Which do you think will be more comfortable?

You mean Subaru has everything Volvo had in 1995, only better? ;)

It's two completely different cars for two completely different people.

The STi is a rocket for people who want to go rediculous fast. The T-5R was pretty fast for it's time, but Volvo hasn't ever aimed for rediculous fast. A Turbocharged Volvo is for people who want a Volvo that's faster than the NAs. For people who want a Volvo with a fair amount of pickup that doesn't leave you saying "come on come on come on" when you're merging on the highway. Nothing more, nothing less. For most people, if a Volvo is what you want you're not even looking at STis.

If you're looking at STi types, you might also be considering the GTO or a Lancer Evolution.

If you're looking a at a new T5 Volvo you're probably looking at a BMW, an Infiniti, a Lexus, or an Audi.

I know there are qualities that the Volvo has that Subaru does not. Mainly the comfort thing. I'm just saying that for me, going fast is more important than that. I also understand that a modified Volvo is going to be more rare than an STI and that doing everything yourself is half the fun. But for the money and performance and eveyrthing else that comes along with it, I will definitely be taking a closer look at Subaru for my next car.

I have the exact same car as you, same color and everything. I was going to get a mitsubishi lancer evo 9mr not too long ago, but there were a few things that held me back.

1. Price- The car is very expensive, and leasing is not an option. With the volvo, if you put in the money that is offset by the cost of an sti or evo, you will actually have a much faster car.

2. Safety- the evo doesnt even have side airbags. the sti may be better but volvo is 2nd to none in that area

3. Sleeper effect- in an evo/sti everyone knows how fast you are, volvo...not a chance, they think that your car has a quarter mile time in the minutes.

4. Responsibilty- I dont know how old you are but the sti may be a bit too much car for you. There are too many people who think that awd means that you can take turns twice as fast. If you have a car like an sti/evo you are more prone to driving fast...with a volvo, not as much (imo).

Plus modding is fun!
