I Had A Sad Realization Today

whoever you raced in the sti obviously can't drive because those cars are f-a-s-t. maybe the older model isn't up to par with the one i drove, but i imagine it can't be too far off. (then a realized you said newer model. so many relizations!)

i pay $1500 a year for insurance.

I am only 17 so that's probably why considering I have never been in any (reported) accidents. My mom has been in no less than two a year for the past three years and I think I might be on the same insurance as my parents. She needs to not drive a big honkin SUV if she can't drive it.

17 yr old male driving a newish turbocharged car on a policy that is already expensive due to excessive accidents. Makes sense...Now imagine how much it would be if you were driving a brand new subaru STI....Exactly :).

Uhh...you do realize I have far more done to my car than you do, right? Also as far as I could tell he was driving pretty dayum well, as there were no points in which I had a sudden pull on him from a mishift, etc. We raced a couple of times with about the same result everytime. Never from a dig as that would have been a stupid idea on my part. The one time we went faster than 100 i started to pull on him, slowly, until we shut it down at about 120. It was also a new 07 model with the snout nose new grill.

You are discrediting Volvo's too much. I have taken one from a 15-120MPH roll. Their only REAL strong point is their launch - that's it. You take an 850/S70 a bit more modded than mine for example, say Chris's (turbor850) car, and that STi is absolutely smoked.

I gaurantee half of these "I smoked a STI" posts are talking about WRXs not STIs. Stock STIs trap ~105 and that is with the awesome AWD launch. Most of the cars on this board don't trap 105 right? Warmed over T5s will beat WRXs. STIs are significantly faster.

an 850 turbo with chip and light mods will take an STi from a roll... that car isn't god.

Agreed

Personally on the subject of STI vs Volvo, i would still take my volvo over that thing any day. I like knowing that i took a car that was looked at as a safe family sedan, and turned it in to a reasonably fast car. IMO, the modding is all the fun in having the car.

Wrong......I gurantee half the people who own STI's think they can smoke everything under the sun and lose...alot....

humans feel speed in funny ways. part of the reason the subaru felt so fast when you drove it was because of how quickly it changed from zero acceleration to full acceleration. the faster that change happens, the faster it feels, even if the final acceleration isn't quite as high ;)

volvos tend to have a more graceful change in acceleration (unless modded). feels slower, but you can't really tell without actually racing the two or timing things.

Listen, I confess i've never driven one of these. And this is my first Volvo/turbo/project car of any kind. But i have driven cars with balls, European cars on the Bahn, 100lb Jap cars, muscle etc. Ozzimark is correct, to me anyway. Speed is wierd. I'm not the drag racing type, but some good handling and a modicum of HP and acceleration and I could make that seem very fast. If given enough pavement, my '63 caddy(R.I.P. :( ) would do a buck30 and make it seem like 55. Also, I'm 6ft 200lb and my kids are 6'3" 235lb and 6'1"240lb. How would you like those knuckleheads with you in an STi for an hour? On the way back from McDonalds?
