potroast
I've got the flashing arrow on my dash, and reading the codes in bank A1 gives me 323. It is the only code in that bank.Of course, the haynes manual does not have a list of A1 codes, and a search on google yielding no help. What is 323 and what can I do to fix it?I thought the flashing arrow meant I would only get gears 1, 2, and R, and have to manually change -- however, the transmission shifted fine all it's own, and went through every single gear. It even still automatically downshifted when going down a hill to get back home. So, guess I need to know what 323 means, and how much my wallet is going to hurt getting rid of it.

potroast
it says "lock up slips or is not engaged". But the transmission shifts through all gears, and otherwise drives fine?
Bay13
Try flushing the transmission. I gave you advice on the wrong code, I was looking at 232 not 323, sorry. If the car is truly slipping or not locking up it's something internal, about the only thing you can do is make sure you have nice new transmission fluid in the car. potroast
i have heard that flushing a tranny can cause it to die if something was wrong? Is this a myth?
Bay13
I've never seen a transmission flush break a transmission, I've also never seen a transmission flush fix a transmission. Usually the flush will smooth out shifts, get dirt and old fluid out so the valve body and clutch packs have a high quality fluid to work with, but again if it's broken bad on the inside a flush isn't going to fix it.I have heard of people flushing the trans and then it broke. Like I said I've only heard of it don't know all the facts on the rumors.
potroast
well it sounds like a flush probably wont break it, but it certainly wont fix it... so what part would I be looking at? Not a whole new tranny?

Bay13
Sounds like something internal, we don't get to bust them open at the dealer, just declare they are bad and install a new rebuilt unit.
potroast
well, I guess I was lucky. Immidiately following a flush of the transmission, the flashing lambda went away!I think I will now invest in a good stacked-plate tranny cooler!!! Any recommendations on what fits?
