Che'_Moderator
I have owned two V8s in those ranges. The 2001 was the only one ever in the shop and it was for some BS with the review mirror after I let the retards BMW referred me to replace it. WTF sticks the mirror on the windscreen anyways. ><Anyways. They are great cars which is why All my 2000+ drivers have been BMWs.

Volvo Virgin
I wanna say 60k and current one is at ~40Yeah,the cars I'm looking at are 80K+ cars.Been trying to get past all the snooty douchebags on the BMW website to get some real answers on what and when to expect repairs.'Course,I'm being a total noob jerk-off and asking all the stupid questions without reading the pinned info.Didn't feel like spending the better part of my weekend looking at my computer.Any preference as to good BMW forums? Greenchunks
I'm also curious about this as well, I'm checking out same model 540i for my friend. So this cooling system/water pump issue, sounds like it's the water pump fails and needs to be replaced, but as Serge metioned its got plastic fins whereas the later model ones had metal fins, can't you just drop a metal fin one in and solve the problem. That seems like just one issue with the cars, sorta like how the RMS goes on our cars. Any other problems with them like electrical gremlins or other maintenance things that are abnormal? TG850T5R
Any preference as to good BMW forums?Try: BIMMERFESTI have many friends who own BMW's and once their warranty / maintenance period is up they do become very expensive. If you are looking at a higer milage car make sure to buy it from its original owner and make sure that all of its known issues have been addressed. 540's are great cars and they are really fast & big.... I like them a lot but heads up on the maint costs....
