850 Cd Changer

After not seeing anything on this site specific to this problem, I decided to post.

Has anyone had success with downloading .mp3 format files and burning them onto a CD playable in the standard changer? I can get the CD to play if I select the disc, and let it run itself. But as soon as I try to change the track, or if I pause/turn off the head unit, the CD will not play back unless I select another disc and then switch back to the first one. This problem only occurs with CD's composed of various songs. CD's I own that I've copied play back just fine, and I've used the same brand of CD's and the same program (Roxio Easy CD creator) to make them.

At first I thought maybe it was a format compatibility issue, but each track plays just fine if I let it play through on it's own. As soon as I interrupt that in any way, it messes up. Anyone else having this problem? I've tried the same CD with the same program on 2 different burning drives so I don't think it's a hardware issue.

Edit: These "homemade" CD's also play without problems in my Sony CDP-310 which is way older than this Volvo changer.

I've had problems in the past playing burned cds where it simply doesn't play, but usually when it let me play it, I could skip around and do whatever. BTW, my cd changer has a mind of its own and will occasionaly just spit the mag out and when you put it back in, it won't play, it'll just say "E". But usually when I can get it to start playing, I'm golden.

I think the best way to get around the changer is burn the cd's at a very low speed. 4 or 8x for example. Apparently the burn goes a lot deeper than if you do it at 10,12,16 etc... speeds. I've burned at 16 and it's been dodgy but burn at 4x and no problems. I think that the changer just needs a better burn so it can read it rather than any issues with media or music.

I'm pretty sure I burned it at 8x. Definitely not 16, it took a while to burn. I'll have to experiment tomorrow with other CD burning software. Maybe it's having trouble recognizing individual tracks or something like that. Definitely very screwy.

use NERO burning rom

and burn in the audio format

i use it all the time

takes less than 10 minutes at 8X (my max burn speed)

i've also burned using a 48X burner (but at 40x speed)

and i play them just fine in the Cd changer

in fact, all the Cd's in my changer are burned

So are all the ones I use. But they're all just copies of CD's I own (made with the same Roxio program). It's the ones I make from mp3's on my computer that aren't working the entire time. Thank you though, I'll look at Nero.
