skylerwaite
Is it easier to work on it from the top or bottom of the car? Anything I should be aware of while I'm putting this on? I don't want any surprises. Thank you in advance.

thelostartof
i have always found working from the top and bottom is the best for turbo swapseither way you remove all of the oil and water lines from the top, and then go under and remove the return line(or @ least unbolt it from the bracket under tho removing it from the turbo helps) and then go back up top and remove the V band around the turbine and remove that, and then pop the compressor housing and CHRA out of the turbine ... once that is off just remove the 4 bolts that hold it to the manifold and then cake from therereinstall is just the same as install the turbine housing first and then slide the CHRA/compressor into it and reconnect all of the linesjust make sure you have all of the washers and gaskets and nuts and bolts on hand that you will need to replace ... if i get off my jerk i will have a small turbo swap kit with all of the little parts one needs
skylerwaite
hm, maybe not today then since i thought it would be fine to just reuse all of the gaskets and stuff.

BtownVolvo
yeah, 13g booooooo. Either way you wont have any gain unless you have tuning. Still be sitting around the stock "8" psi (although mine is around 6 (de-tuned)).ME7 doesn't like boost controllers too much...
skylerwaite
i've been working on this aaaaaaaalllllllllll night. after i thought everything was removed, i forgot about... well, i don't really know what it's called, but the opening of the turbo where the air goes into it. i don't see any possible way of getting that off to take it out.was all of the coolant supposed to leak out when i take the line off? also, one of the studs was bent on the new turbine so we tried to take it off, but couldn't. is it possible to just use the old turbine? I'm going to swap them again soon because the outlet side of the turbine is a bit bigger on the 16t housing, and sinece its been out I've found time to port the inlet a little bit and smooth it all out. If so, it's just held on by a hose clamp. Did you already undo the part bolted to the engine/exhaust manifold? As well as the coolant/oil lines?Yes, when you take the coolant lines off all the coolant will leak off.Of course you can use the old turbine.did i mention that this is like, an emergency?Nope.
