850r Vs. Mk4 Jetta 1.8t Manual

Had a guy try to beat me to the 2-into 1 lane merge again with one of these.I saw him downshift and move to the left lane and I floored it at about 35mph.I didn't get 1st gear, only second,so I didn't take off that well.We were neck and neck until I crept ahead a bit.We met up at the next light and I started walking away pretty good around 60mph.He tried to chase me through some wide S-curves but really fell back. The low speed stuff was too close for my comfort, though.I wouldn't doubt the car was stock, but it may have been chipped.....???

My buddy has one and its slow as balls... where did you race this guy anyway? also watch out for a green 855 with only the Volvo badge on the back in Portland as this car will eat you alive :) It was my old car... Its parked by the 7/11 towards the hospital most times.

It was in Portland on Rand Rd. all the way down the connector into Westbrook near Hannafords. He looked kinda mad and didn't even wave when I turned off.I wouldn't have raced him but the way he pulled out really fast and thought he was gonna blow by me was too good an opportunity!

I keep seeing this kid with a green 855 Turbo with IPD badges and a Turner Motorsports plate frame(?).He pulled up to me near the mall and was like "Wow,nice R!!" He was really enthusiastic and said he wanted the Motorsport badge like I've got.I've seen him like 3 times around town since.

The guy I bought my Columbas from also has a green 855 with S80 wheels...Kosta is his name I think.....that's not the car is it? I drove it,and it went pretty good but not mindblowing.I think it was chipped w/a rip kit and a few other little things.I'm not sure if any of them are on here or not.

1.8t have turbo about the size of your fist, they spool at almost right after idle but really lack the flow for alot of topend. A kid at school has a GTI with 290 bhp , but he has CAI, TBE, Chip, FMIC, throttle body/ every bolt on avalible, and an after market turbo. without the turbo he said he could only get 240hp out if it, he is running 1.5 bar or 21 psi. he says it will spike to 25 and taper off alot with the stock turbo because its was so small. Basically 1.8t are way overated

I disagree, those 1.8t motors are capable of 500 hp more commonly than our coveted t5. Granted there is much more R&D involved with VW stuff but they are reliable motors capable of amazing feats. Of course I love the 5 banger just to be different, seems like everyone and their mom nowadays has a 4cyl turbo performance vehicle. But how many have smoking tires on thier brick shaped toaster oven.

used car to used car i think the volvo is superior, look at how much people want for a used 1.8t or Vr6, its ridiculous. also 1.8l can only net you so much. i think a vr6 with a EIP (or anyother vw company) Stage 1 turbo kit for 4k installed could definetly beat a 1.8t IIRC eip stage 1 vr6 makes 330hp and my friend definetly has 4k in his car and is making 290hp, he has just about 2k invested just between the TBE and FMIC

Reliable? say that around any VW tech and they will burst out laughing. Volvo motors are much more reliable!
