pfeener
I have a 1998 S70 GLT with 165K miles. I've replaced the air pump once already and the one that's in there now is frozen up and the check engine light is on. The air pump has been broken for about a year now and the car seems to run fine. The gas milage is around 26-28 miles per gallon which is what it's always been. Is there any downside to just leaving the air pump broken?
Bay13
Fuel trim is inhibited.
Guest Guest
Yes, I know that from looking at some of the other posts. But what does that really mean? Will the fuel trim being disabled cause any long term damage?
jda2000
I don't believe it will cause any longterm damage, since the airpump only comes for several seconds during cold start up, to help decrease emissions. If you have smog check in your area, then you have to fix it to clear the CEL and pass inspection. If you decide to replace it, drill a 1/8" hole in the new pump. Follow the hose from the SAS valve to the air pump nipple where it attaches. Drill the hole at the lowest portion of the nipple, and also replace the SAS valve.Water vapor from the engine condenses and ends up in the water pump when the SAS valve has failed, because of the design since the pump is lower than the valve. The hole would drain this condensation and prevent the pump from seizing up again.
Mesoam
mine is bad as well however i took it out and no water came out? How can i test it? Where do i put the 12v to?
Bay13
Unplug the connector on the right from the relay, an put 12V to the blue wire. You might be able to do this from the bottom if you take down the air dam.
