giantrobot9000
I have some Michelin Exalto PS2s in the stock 205/45/17 size on my 17x7 Volans right now.I like the tires, but they are pricey and need replacement.I have a couple of questions now that I've narrowed it down a bit-1)Do I go with 215/40/17 or 215/45/17 ? My car is stock right now but I may drop it just a bit in the future.I'm thinking I want the larger size.2)These are a few tires that I like.I want performance summer tires, not all-season,but I don't need the most extreme grippy thing out there. They must be good in wet weather.I want a comfortable ride, because the roads up here stink, and good treadwear(well over 200).Price is also a factor...they can't be more than $100 each-Dunlop Direzza DZ101Avon M500BF Goodrich G-Force SportKumho Ecsta SPI had Yoko AVS ES100s on my Miata and my Civic and didn't like them.Too noisy and harsh.Gripped well, but I don't think they'll work well on the 850R.Yokohama Parada 2s in the stock size also might be an option...$78 each.Any thoughts/experiences or other suggestions would be very helpful...thanks. pwebb
I like the look of 215/40/17 on lower cars. I say 215/45 if you're on a normal drop.

chaze1385
225/45 17 fit nice on non lowered cars. i run the fuzions, pretty good and inexpensive. i would stay away from the 40 series stuff, to low profile. Chad
Volvo Virgin
Do yourself a favor and go with the 215/45/17.Been there done that. :)
ifbiker
I just bought a set of NOS Volans and ended up going with the 215/45/17 route for two reasons, one ride quality and two, wheel longevity. Through my searches I saw a lot of people belly-aching about bent Volans resulting from bad roads, the lower profile only adds to that problem.I ended up going with the Kumho Ectsa SPT tires and have been very happy with them so far. I'm not a track guy and the Kuhmo's have certainly met my expectations so far...although I only have a few hundred miles on them. They are quieter than I expected, seem to match the stock suspension/handling capabilities well, and they look nice too.
giantrobot9000
Thanks for the help.I've decided on 215/45/17 for sure, now I just need to pick a tire.
SteveO
Thanks for the help.I've decided on 215/45/17 for sure, now I just need to pick a tire.I've got the Kumho Ecsta SPTs in 215-45-17 on Titans. I like them, but I think I'll try something different this next go round. The Ecsta Spt wore very uneven(outsides wore quickly @35psi)if pressured for a decent ride. They handled well and i got 1.5 years out of them. They were also a little groovy on the L.A. freeways. The other problems I had were due to alignment issues. I'm concidering the BFG g-force sport this time. The tire it self seems larger the rim protection seem a bit better than the kumho's, only because the whole sidewall of the tire comes out past the wheel, instead of just the rim strip on the kumi's. I don't think they will last as long though. I have coilovers as well and wonder if I'll be able to lower any more with the BFGs(since they run big), I don't think it would be an issue with the kumhos. Che'_Moderator
Thanks for the help.I've decided on 215/45/17 for sure, now I just need to pick a tire.Get a tire with the smallest out side diameter if you plan to lower. Not all 215/45s have the same diameter. Get a small one

S70TurboAl
I recently bought some Toyo Teo's which seem excellent in the wet. I have 215/45/17's

(for a reason, $$$ )a better choice would be Michelin PS2 or Toyo T1-R but I see that price is a concern..... The G-Force Sport is your best option (the others especially Kumho don't even consider...)) given the budget you have...I'd personally spend the extra $30 a tire and get the Goodyear Eagle F1-GSD3 @ $132... or TOYO T1-R @ $140 from www.1010tires.com (I'd go for the TOYO because it has a stiffer sidewall than the Goodyear and provides better steering feel)both these are your best comprimise, good in the rain and probably the same comfort as your current michelins...... I know it's going a little over but it's gonna make your car so much more fun to drive...from the choices you listed I wouldn't buy any of them... spend the extra $$$ and you'll be thankful you did..** tires make or break your driving experience ***
