S80 N.a. Tranny "hiccups" Randomly Between 2-3,500k Rpm's...

I've been having this problem for awhile now, and it hasn't been bad enough to the point where I cannot drive the car, but it is getting rather annoying.

Since I do not have 800 bucks at the moment to replace the ABS module (it is bad, has been since I bought the car) I have not replaced it. I am not sure if this is causing the problem or not, but I thought I would throw it out there.

When I'm driving around town, it seems in about 2nd or 3rd gear, the engine's revs seem to start to jump between 2,000 3,800 rpms, in about 3 second intervals. It is very constant. If I give it more gas, the gap between the revving gets even wider. Unless I gas it past about 4k rpms and it shifts into 4th gear, it just keeps "hiccuping". And oddly enough, it doesn't always happen. When it occurs is random, and sometimes it won't act up for a couple days. But then it acts up again. When it gets past 4k or is driving around town below 2,500 rpm's...it is fine.

So either I have come up with 2 conclusions:

1.) My transmission is slipping,

2.) My idle control module is acting up

3.) My bad ABS module is giving bad signals to the ETM.

Does anybody have any ideas as to what is causing this??? Like I said, at this point it is not a serious issue that prevents me from normally driving the car. But still, that is not normal at all. My car is still going on the original tranny with almost 137 k miles on it.

hehe, you got tip tronic?

I have bad news for you and it only hints at alot of money.

Your problem sounds like something fairly common in the 1999 s80's where the transmission have a GM part in them that fails, costing someone alot of money :(

if it's the tranny the 4T65EV can cost between 900 (scrap yard) and 2k (new/refurbished/factory). professional labor for the swap is about 2K (you need the engine support tool, plus a couple of jacks for the engine, and the tranny, and you need to remove all the subframe/transaxle/suspension parts). core trade in is about 600. don't bother to do fix it until you pop a CEL. i can say one thing a new tranny has a really sweet feel after driving one with 100k miles on it. I'm saving my old tranny to have it rebuilt with raybestos clutches, etc... at least that's the plan. it's a big repair you might as well do some serious planning once it's needed.

edit: i would imagine drastic slipping should throw a CEL because of the speed mismatch... mine deteriorated over time and feels much much tighter now. i was very aggressive with the transmission prior to failure.
