Modus
Does any one know how to buy professional car care products? Like the ones that are used at your local car wash. I want to buy a 5 gallon bucket of the green slime that just washes away the break dust. I like going to the car wash just to get my wheels cleaned, hence if i had the chemicals myself i wouldn't ever have to go.I found Gliptones professional page But one has to be a distruibutor in order to purchase. http://www.gliptone.com/prod/cl_solv.asptanks.Modus

steve s
lots of elbow grease... some of those spray on chemicals seem a bit too harsh... also, when u finish washing...get like wheel wax or something to apply onto the wheel since it's painted. i found the brake dust comes off much easier if i apply a coat of wheel wax prior to it getting dirty, like right after u clean it.... jroot
Yeah, use some wax on them..I put wax on mine maybe once every 6 months..then between that time I just use a rag to clean off the brake dust - usually just comes right off. Also have a brush too for when I was the car, but even then I go to the rag after.
850 Stylzz
Im telling you guys, just try simple green. You'll never have to bother with the wax. Just spray it on and brake dust brushes off WAAAY easy.
Burgundy_850
there are plenty of products on the market just for this purpose, just goto your local automotive related store and pick one up. they all work pretty much the same (spray on hose off). i use that first, then a brush designed for rims to get the leftovers off. works great plus it won't get your rags really dirty. 550
Hehe i tried simple green, and while it does a great job, it isn't THAT great,(like sh!t your paints great) especially if you have alot of it(dust), my pads throw a helluva lot of dust. What does work, but is corrosove if left on too long, is the mothers stuff in the yellow wheel shaped bottle. It works fairly good for spray on spray off, but I still have to use a little grease(elbow) to get the dust off, and then I do put a coat of wax on too. Basically, take a dish sponge, and that will help you get into the harder to fit into crevices(hehe), use the non abrasive side, unless you have some serious dust issues(like me) where it is getting baked onto the rim. Then you have to be careful not to take any coatings off, mine are just stock rims, so I could care less, just as long as they look decent.Good luck, rinse well because sometimes dust from the inner wheel, like where the brakes lie, can seep onto the wheel after it has semi dried, then you get crappy brake dust marks over your wheels.peace

PyROZen
the best way ive found to clean your wheels really good is to take off the tires, spray wheel cleaner all over them and spray em off with a pressure washer. I used black magic wheel cleaner and my wheels looked brand new. A good 3000psi powerwasher makes short work of baked on brake dust.
850t-5 man
just wash your car every week. and yes simple green is the best thing in the world. does a great job on tires with a stiff nylon brush.
StrickDudeLand
brush off the dust dry, that removes and loosens a lot of the dust on the surface. The after you've brushed it dry, only then, get it wet..use elbow grease etc.Mothers Mag Polish, works awesome too.Use a rag for matinence
Modus
Thanks guys, I appreciate the come backs. Yea the break dust sucks. The pain is the pits on the rim due to the expended glue in the pads. when left on like over the winter it eats down to the metal on the rim. that's the real problem. however i hate using my elbow greese, as for in search apply and hose off.In taking my wheels off and power washing.. that's a dedicated day of washing. Seldom happens I will try the simple green.thanks.
PyROZen
i used black magic rim cleaner when i powerwashed my rims. It just melts the stuff off like butter. Might as well paint the calipers too since ya got the wheels off ;)

Geevs
I used to use Simple Green but have switched to an orange-oil based cleaner which I think work better and is safer. Home Depot sells the Zep concentrate 4 quart jug for around 6 bucks and will last a long time. I also found this to clean the tire sidewalls better. For very hard and crusty baked-on brake dust, that is another story. I have tried everything even Castrol Super Clean but have not been able to remove it. Maybe I will try power washing but wonder if it will strip off the clear coat.HTH,Geevs
