Tme/ipd Data Logger Output

Recommended Posts

So ipd sold any of these yet? What all can it do? I mean it data logs so I assume you can change the variable multipliers and stuff?

they have been taking preorders for months. but finally started first customer ships on the 30th.

it's basically four parts

1) hardware platform for communicating between the ODBII port and a computers USB port.

2) an ECU loader (unloader for your existing tune?) that lets you program TME/IPD tunes yourself.

3) a diagnostics package that reads CEL's and displays the normal as well as volvo specific codes.

4) the data logger that provides a realtime bar graph on the computer as well as a datafile (hopefully an XLS file directly) that can be used for informational purposes as well as a basis for more custom tunes.

you can order just the hardware and data logger itself. if you already have an IPD tune you might be able to buy the thing to switch to another vendor tune without losing the IPD one. this is something that BSR can't do last time i looked (only factory tune and BSR tune).

While IPD may not support end-user tuning, if you have the ability to download/upload a map without the use of an EEPROM burner, wouldn't this make it much easier to take a map, throw it into a hex editor or other debugging tool, and make changes? May not be user-friendly for most, but at least possible?

Also, logs also have other useful features, like bragging / helping to diagnose problems. I've spent many hours wiring in after-market sensors to get similar data, for that reason. Hell, I STILL don't have calibrated speed readings. I think some people might buy it just for the data logging aspects.

And re: "weird condition"... I don't have my WBO2 installed, and you know more about the technical side of it than I do, so I'm not going to argue. But I will say I've seen such numbers for up to 5 or 6 seconds at least. This is the longest I've ever managed to record it that I can find logs for:

Ok...... Will it ever be? Or is it like you mail ipd your logs and for a set fee they make you a 1 off set of maps?

as far as has been disclosed that's the end of the line; one off maps, and perhaps only the most popular ones. although they may make pretty gauges for the realtime data logger (may be cheaper than real ones, and you don't have to cut up your dash). it's a matter of dollars and cents.

there is an element of encryption involved. it maybe trivial or not. to break encryption you best off if you have some idea of what the data maybe, either in value or structure. in this case... i don't know either.

If IPD were smart they would make an unlocked version. So whatever this one cost + say a 600 dollar unlocking fee. Thats what a lot of the amerian car tuners do. I guess I am not getting it. Oh wow. My AFs are fuxored. Thank you data logger. Too bad I cannot do anything about it.

I think this falls on TME's shoulders. I don't think that IPD has the process capability to do a custom tune, they would need to send it to Marco at TME and he would do the changes. You're right thought, I'd rather spend an extra $600 right of the bat to be able to get complete control of my system rather than going back on forth (at a cost) to get things dialed in. Perhaps there are legal ramifications involved but that can be easily avoided with a legal and signed statement.

Not sure. Lots of systems on the market allow you to make your own changes. EFI-Live comes to mind. Either way its a step in the right direction. IPD

ah, well, i just realized an easy a way around it all :)

guess it's time to buy one!

some feedback on the datalogging results:

SkyWriter,

The ARF's that show 73.5 are not uncommon especially on moderate/high Rpm decel. When the engine is at higher RPM, say 2500 and up, and the throttle is suddenly cut the injectors are actually shut off. This is done to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. The injectors turn back on when either the throttle is depressed or the idle catch point is reached. So momentary AFR's in this range are not expected. Also consider the sample rate, there is a 'smoothing' effect that the ECU uses when looking at O2 reading. Remember that an oxygen sensor is reporting voltage on oxygen content and does not actually report AFR. AFR is a calculation based on factors including left over oxygen content in the exhaust stream. The smoothing effect that the ECU employs helps to 'filter' out these types of readings and in some cases may be ignored, especially when the injectors are cut.

As for boost spikes that is also an 'eye of the beholder' situation. Boost on later model Volvos' is measure via the IAT/boost sensor on the intercooler outlet. A boost spike typically occurs when the throttle is closed suddenly and the backup of boost between the throttle blade and the turbo. Recall that a compressor bypass valve/blow off valve is there for the purpose of relieving this backpressure which is also known as compressor stack. The 'stack' occurs as a pressure wave that is deflected of the throttle blade and transmits back through the induction plumbing much like a wave in a wave tank. The intercooler also exhibits a small amount of pressure drop across its tubes which helps to dispurse this pressure buildup while the remaining is blow off or recirculated by the CBV or BOV. So this measured spike, although real, is not of the type that is considered to be harmful or requires a change to tuning/boost management.

I said that 12 posts back.

where is the delete post button?

i mixed up the answers on fuel cut during shift with throttle snaping shut.

someone asked about the temp's and the answer didn't make sense:

On pit row, it was around 88 degrees F I didn't have a laser temp gauge to measure the actual track surface temp but I would think the asphalt temp would be over 110 degrees F? Perhaps someone has the answer to track temps versus air temp off the track. I was also running a blend of 6 gallons 100 "cracktane" with the rest 91 "craptane."
