98 T5 Maf Sensor

Hey everybody. yesterday I was driving home, and at a stoplight the car seemed to "miss a beat". You could feel it thru the steering wheel, and the tach would dip a little bit. When I accellerated, it semed to stumble a bit, then drove fine at speed. By the time I got home, the idle was very rough. Figuring it could be the MAF sensor, I unplugged it, started her back up and she seemed to run slightly smoother. I bought some MAF cleaner, and cleaned it well, and she ran normally. I drove to work this morning, she ran fine. I drove her to lunch, ran fine most of the time, but missed one beat, but ran fine thereafter, and ran fine on the way home. I already ordered a new MAF, but my question is this: am I barking up the right tree? or wasting my time (and money) with a new MAF?

BTW: I have 136,000 miles, and it's the original MAF.

Well if it was the MAF you were bound to get a code at some point. At that mileage its safe to say that it doesnt hurt to replace it....

You probably already know this so this goes out to all the other kids out there.... Before buying a new sensor or what not; try trading it out with a known good used unit as this will almost always tell you if its that part or not. This is only realist on parts that cost a good amount of money. If its something like a RPM sensor that is cheap then just replace it!

I would if I just had one lying around. But at this point the problem is intermittent.

...could also be the connector plug. The official Volvo fix for the weak connector point is to add a zip-tie around the wiring harness. If you haven't done this, it could be the problem.

I'll do this tonight. Either way, the MAF is getting changed (when it arrives).
