I hope you aren't saying thats bad.

What, that people are getting in and getting scholarships who are less qualified than others? There's plenty of schools, why dont they go to one that is at their academic level, like UCSB or UCSD are plenty good schools, no reason for them to be let in to a school above their academic level only to get poor grades and use up scholarships other people would love to have. (except for atheletes, we need those guys even if they're not the brightest)

Hey guys i just actually graduated today in polysci, all I can say is go to a big state school and enjoy every minute of it.

yeah i was thinking that too...but i think i enjoy the feel of a smaller private school a little more. i hate being a number in a class rather than a kid with a name

while I agree on some level, diversity in school is key. you need to have another person's perspective if you want to have true education.

i agree with some diversity but i draw the line when I'm in a 400 level engineering class with students who shouldn't even be in the program but are allowed to stay because they add diversity to the group... some are very bright don't get me wrong... but they let some slide by and I've seen a full-free-ride "diversity" student get 50s on 3 tests in a row then some how manage a C- overall in the class. pisses me off.

No, you take the swimming test during orientation, and if you don't pass, you have to take a swimming class. They just want everyone that goes to Cornell to be able to swim, because there are creeks/lakes running all through campus and a huge lake at the bottom of the hill. I think it's a good idea...

Is that the reasoning?

My Econ teacher went to Cornell, and he actually said that one of the founder had a family member (son maybe?) who drowned and so he made it a requirement that all students needed to know how to swim so it's been that way for a long long time.

Econ teacher thought it was funny because there's all these pale kids trying to swim. LOL.
