Qbm Xtreme Endlinks

Recommended Posts

This is really annoying... I wanted to install mine this weekend. They were "supposed" to be here last Tuesday.

Hold out hope, cause I finally got my rod ends today!!!

Was the noise sounding like it was coming from the underside of the front end? Kinda like the strut mount taking a stuff, but they are fine?

Exactly what I have. Trust me its not your strut mounts. I just replaced those and the noise is still there. $160 mistake whatever.

I'm a little pissed at these QBM links. 100k on the stock ones and they made no noise but just 10k on the QBM ones and they are making a really bad racket. I think I'm going to take them off and lube them to hell and see what happens.

Yea, thats what I need to do..What lube do you use with the "teflon" areas?

The rod ends are sealed units. If they have developed any play in the end, lubing them will do nothing. If they are making noise (i.e. squeaking, creaking) and don't have any play, then lubing may help temporarily.

So where does one get ends that fit Slater's bars aside from Slater? He's not around and i'm getting increasingly pissed off driving around with a rattlemobile.

Slater is the only one unfortuneately. :(

Anybody having a minor clunking noise from time to time (goes over bump) when the endlink make movement? Only when I hit pothole or irregular street surface but I dont' have a problem during turning or cornerning. OEM one doesn't make any noise at all.

On mine does and it was told because the hemi-joint (not QBM) is metal to metal contact?

Rattlemoblie  I know exactly what you mean. I might take mine off this weekend. Do some measuring and look around online and see what sizes and specs and what not.

Do these really suck that bad?

the overall quality of the endlink is excellent. as are Slater's engine mounts and other upgrades. the problem is that heim joints were not designed to cope with sand, dirt, salt, water, tar, etc. - all the things that street-driven cars are exposed to. the joints are wear items that, as we're finding out, need somewhat frequent replacement. nature of the beast unfortunately.

I traced my issues to steering rack noise (I know that the rack is going). With only 3-4k on the endlinks, I might take them off and replace them with BMW or IPD and put the QBM on Ebay before I run into any problems.

Seems to me the majority of the complaints are with the newer Xtreme links. Before I upgraded, I had the Version 3 links on the car for a 1 1/2 years, driving 100 miles a day, before the heims started developing any play. I had the Xtreme links for 6 months and only a few thousand miles (don't commute like I used to) before 2 of the rod ends needed to be replaced.

If the issue with the newer rod ends is contamination causing them fail, then the boot kit he sells now should be included with the kit.

Well personally, I think its I'm dumb that I'm having any issues with these things..they cost $180 and for that I could have gotten a few sets of OEM and had NO NOISE!

I think Greg needs to chime in here and let us know if there is anything that he is willing to do for us, since most of us were pointed in his direction only AFTER the fact that EVERYONE on here said that his links were the last ones that you would ever have to buy..

im having the same problem and my mechanic said the same thing, that the hem joints weren't made to withstand all the wear and tear of daily driving. i know slater is not in the best of condition, but i think some sort of replacement should be justified. i dont think bashing slater on the forum is helping though. someone needs to get in touch with slater and get things straightend out.

how can you blame slater for what everyone else has said ?

he states on his website they're for off-road use only and has always... meaning they werent developed with the guarantee they'd hold up to conditional changes of everyday driving.

with that said though, i've had a set on my daily drive for a little over a year now with no real play issues from the joints.

*knock on wood*
