Motor Swap On A '93 850?

Recommended Posts

Any engine will fit. No need to replace harness. If there are sensors that are different, swap them out with the ones on your engine. Throttle body maybe different and would require a swap, cam position sensor can be different which shouldn't matter, speed sensor is the same. Don't remember what else is there. When I swapped engine in my 93 glt, I used all accessories from my old engine including the mounting bracket where alternator and such attach. You may have to keep your intake manifold too if the new engine has EGR. It can be a pita to have it fit over the oil separator that has an outlet to the top of the head. The 93 engines do not have an outlet to the head. The oil separator on later engines is larger. The intake manifold on 93 engines is bigger than on later engines as well. You would also need to use your old exhaust manifold as the cat you have has 2 mounting bolts. On 94 and up the 4 bolt cats are used.

I agree with the above! the worse part will be the exaust manifold because the are different. I actually put a 93 engine into a 94 engine with an airpump. I simply swapped the computer assembly and had no issues.

I am actually going to put a 95 engine in a 93. The 95 has two 02 sensors compared to the 93 and the manifold is different. But im thinking of swapping the whole exaust system while im at it so it might not be an issue.
