with
So I'm looking to get new speakers. The ones in the front doors and the ones in the back. I know the front doors ones are 5 1/4 and the backs are a size want to do 6x9s. Now my question is should I do eclipse or go big and save for focal? And if I get focal will they fix in the stock enclosures that came with my 96 850? I also have an eclipse CD2000 deck.
paulr
I don't have specific answers to your questions (ie, fitment on the focals). However, anything involving 6x9s will involve a lot of cutting (for rear doors or rear deck). If you're looking for SQ as well as volume, ditch the stock locations, and get kicks. I think there was a set in For Sale recently, and there was talk of a group buy a while back. There are also a few installers on this board who would probably make them for you. Or your could make them yourself, or try to find a local shop. A set of 2-way kicks with decent 6.5" drivers could probably be done for $500 - $650. Much more midbass, better imaging. Otherwise just go "middle of the road" in the stock locations, ie, the eclipse.
Owned
Putting Focals in the stock locations is a waste of money. In kicks or door pods, I'll take Bravox over Focal.

Soundstreams are the nicest value-priced speakers I've ever bought and they outperform with more pricey brands like memphis. Infinitys are nice too, but I'm leaning more towards soundstream since I've tried out some of their stuffIf I was mr. moneybags, I'd have memphis everything front to back in my car. But I'm not so I'm running infinity components everywhere, except on the back package shelf in the prior location of the factory 8" subwoofers. thejknight
I dont have any relevent experience with eclips but can say that Focals are amazing speakers. They were in my Yukon before and will be installed in the VR soon. They are a bit bright and need a quality head with EQ to get sounding perfect.Good luck! OH and from another post above Old Skool Soundstream is great stuff. I will be running a couple old Reference amps in the V as well.
