cicatriz
I was told by a mechanic friend of mine that the cats on newer cars are a lot more efficient and better made than on the older ones, and that removing the cat on my car might actually hurt performance. This true?I'm getting a 3" dp built soon and was wondering whether I should go catless or not, if it'll be worth it and how loud it'll be, etc.Car is a 2005 S40 T5. JCviggen
It wouldnt hurt performance but your will throw a code and go into limp mode or something unless you trick the rear O2 sensor. I wouldnt go catless in your case.

I wouldnt go catless in your case.I was gonna use an "O2 Sensor Spacer" or whatever you wanna call it. JHEII showed it to me on iPD website and said it should work.If not, will a high flow cat still be better than my current one? Or will that throw a code as well. With a new high flow cat where should the O2 bung go, right in the cat like on stock? or after it.
JCviggen
High flow cat should work without issues I've been running catless 3" on my 850 for a few years now. The sound is great, but you do get more unpleasant exhaust smells.

The sound is great, but you do get more unpleasant exhaust smells. Thanks; where would the O2 sensor that is located directly on the stock cat go on the new DP? Would it go on the new cat as well (the bung is located in the middle of the old cat) or would it come after the cat?Would a 3" Dp without a tune (say stage 3 bsr) pose any problems or its just going to give me more power, but not as much as it would with the tune. Auburn T5
not sure if you've had this done or not but do your ears a favor and get a race cat or something. It'll be retarded loud if you go catless. I just got mine put on and even with a magnaflow race cat and muffler, still a loud drone in the car.http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php?showtopic=78019

I don't know a lot about new s40's, but I doubt that the spacer will work. it doesn't work for majority of 850/x70
Auburn T5
Mine has a cat and it's loud. I would QUICKLY grow weary of the noise if it didn't have that cat helping quiet things down.

I can get you a clip of the older S40 with open DP, it sound like a boat. It's true that newer car OEM cat is more efficient.I would get a race cat. The gain of going catless is not enough to deal with the drone and the loudness :)
