sven77
OK, so far the no-start problem hasn't occured again yet...But I replaced the plugs and found that all of them where very rich, just as the tailpipe and dark smoke indicates. I have just gotten a P0134 (o2 sensor no activity bank 1 sensor 1) and P1171 error. I cleaned up the electrical connector for the front o2 sensor; cleared the code, and it came back. I cleared the codes again, ran the car some more, and now they havn't come back (yet anyway). The engine seems to be running fine, but I am sure it is still running very rich. At this point I am going to order a new front o2 sensor and install it when I get it.I am using obd-2.com software with the triple-combo connector. I have noticed that I cannot get information on the front o2 sensor. This seems rather strange; is this typical of 1999+ volvo's and obd-ii? I get the reading from the second o2 sensor just fine. The car has not lit the check engine light for this problem. I have checked the fuel pressure and it looks good between 375 and 395 kPA which I think was like 55 or 65 psi... anyway it's good.I've seen mention about vacuum leaks at the elbows- is there any digrams for my car to show where they are located?Any other ideas?Thanks- Sven77
garbergtsi
well, it would help to know if its a turbo or nonand yes, its normal for most junk OBD2 readers to NOT show O2 readings on these...
sven77
It is the low pressure turbo 2.4L 190HP engine. Also, I know nothing about how the turbo operates in this car... where the turbo pump is located...? When/how it operates? etc. Thanks for any/all help with this!Sven77
s70turbo1998
awesome thread, i too just pulled the P0134 and the check engine light is usually constant, but sometimes on and off. Definitely notice the ECU adapting incorrectly to the thrown sensor. also have a 99 LPT, and i figured that since im at 122XXX miles i am just going to replace both 02 sensors.OBD2 at autozone did not read the O2 sensor either
MrWinkey
Your rich mixture could be due to the 0/2 sensor fault. The 1171 is a fuel trim code and is probably the elbow on the end of the intake that is leaking.Very common.
sven77
I've checked most of the vacuum lines and do not find any leaks. The elbow that comes off the drivers-side side of the intake manifold is OK. The idle rpm is about 950-975 (is that normal?) I do not have an o2 sensor error at this time, I suspect that all the extra unburnt fuel out the exhaust is playing havoc with the o2 sensors. If I unplug the MAF during idle, the engine stumbles, nearly stalls, but then regains its composure. The engine idles OK most of the time, but also runs rough at times. This comes and goes. When it runs rough, it seems like either one cylinder, or a random cylinder is missing. Since all the plugs showed rich, I'll assume it is random.Any more ideas are welcome. The car seems to have power as usual (so I doubt it is an exhasut back-pressure problem). If I remove the air intake from the front of the car near the radiator and put my hand over it, I get a decent suction, but the car still idles (it's getting air somehow) I'd assume this is typical?Thanks,Sven77
sven77
After plugging and unplugging several sensors, and what seems to be most important, unplugging the battery for 20 minutes to reset the computer, the car is running fine now. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it lasts.Sven77
GTGLT
Excellent: I also have a 99 V70 GLT (LPT) with ~106k on it, check engine light is on, Code P0134 is read. Just purchased the vehicle in April and the previous owner just had both the O2 sensors replaced (probably because this same code was read) at a dealer (yes I have checked and yes they are OEM). I have swapped out the spark plugs and the old plugs looked very good (light grey/brown, no black residue). I have always owned Toyota trucks so the car does seem to start rough and idle is sometimes rough, but I don't get the feeling that it is abnormal, also power is very good and gas mileage is 24-27 (pretty good for this car?). Also when I disconnect the battery to reset the computer, the CEL doesn't return for roughly 300-500 miles. Please, what should I look for? Vacuum leaks? O2 harness? Thanks all - Billard
garbergtsi
if it starts running alot better after a battery reset, the problem is likely the O2 sensor...
