Found My Missing Boost.

been having problems with my boost recently where no matter what i done my ebc wouldn't set the boost higher then 12 psi. had pretty much done stage 0 so was getting a bit vexed.

anyway, had some time today so thought i'd do a couple of things that had been suggested to me by you guys and on vpcuk.

first thing i done was wind the wastegate rod in by two turns. next i took the forge blanking plate off and put some sealant there. while i was doing that i took off the big pipe from the air filter to the turbo and noticed one of the pipes wasn't sitting quite as flush as it should be. so i pushed that in and chucked some sealant there as well.

done that by about 5pm so left it at that. just went out a little while ago for a test and the boost is back :D

went to 15psi and then started dropping off to about 13psi right at the top end.

wound the boost up just to check and it hit 17psi so quickly let off the throttle and then set it back to 14psi. seems more responsive lower down now as well.

have read on here that after doing the wastegate mod the ecu will quickly compensate for it so will have to wait and see if the boost stays.

very happy though, just wanted to share and say thanks. 2.30 am here, need some sleep!!

ebc is briiliant, just turn it off and your at standard boost or just turn it on when the mood gets you. its also a cheap way to get some fun with increased boost while i do other stuff.

so now i've got some wheels which just need two tyres before they go on the car and that will allow me to then get some 302mm brakes and thats when i'll start concentrating more on the power and get an exhaust and then maybe a RICA or MTE upgrade. well, thats the plan anyway.

Winding wastegate rod? Tell me more. I've got boost leaking from somewhere but sleuthing to find out just from where hasn't happened yet.

Boost gauge will be here this coming week to know for sure just how much is getting away.

thats cool how does it work with the ecu and fuel are you running lean when you up the boost or does it build fine and not smoke

from what i've read here and other volvo forums it's safe to have the boost pressure set to 14psi(standard is 9-10psi).

auburn i dont have enough knowledge to tell you much about the wastegate mod, all i will say is do a search, there's loads of info here about this.

your best bet would be to get the boost gauge fitted first, see what boost your running and even what your vacuum readings are at idle then maybe start changing vacuum lines if you do have a leak before you go and do the wastegate mod
