S80 Bov?

So, I am ordering an exhaust from TME pretty soon, getting windows tinted on Tuesday, and I've also thought about the possibility of a blow off valve on my 2001 S80 T6.

I'm just gonna rattle off a bunch of questions, so answer whatever you'd like to:

I've been told that with an automatic, a BOV does next to nothing performance-wise, and simply adds a cool sound, which I would still enjoy, but is this true?

Would a BOV somehow make the car perform worse?

Would there even be much of a sound with such small turbos?

If so, when would the BOV release? At each shift?

Would there be a difference (in sound) if I did it along with a ECU upgrade?

What type of BOV should I get? (From searching, I've heard HKS SSQVs are a good choice, but I really don't know the difference)

Basically, I could use all the information I can get. And if you think it's not a good idea, tell me that too

From what i have been told BOV do not increase the performance of your automatic car. Mostly because with a automatic u dont have to let off the gas while shifting so there isnt a reason for extra boost to get built up. But it wouldnt hurt your performance.

TME exhaust? isn't that just dual endpipes?

skip the TME and the BOV, get an ECU (RICA, or IPD) first, then see what you want to do.

wtf?

Won't hurt performance. Buy a namebrand based on which sounds the best to you. A lot of websites have sound clips.

Most people who buy BOVs do it just for the sound, not to replace their CBVs. Don't you have to go with dual BOVs on the T6 anyway?

Aren't the 01 T6's intercooled? if so aslong as you mount the BOV next to the inlet pipe for the TB you should be fine. otherwise the two charge pipes from the turbo w/o an intercooler should meet up somewhere and you can fab a piece that will mount 1 BOV. You don't need two BOVs. A TiAL or HKS will flow more than enough for any turbo you'd sanely fit on an S80.

If you get a BOV stay away from turboXS!

I had one on my civic (approx: 9psi) never had a prob, and I loved it.

So I figured I'd get one one for the c70 (up to 15psi w/ecu) , and it's leaking bad, just like I was warned!

TurboXS BOVs or some reason are hit or miss. I know a few RFLs that will hold and not leak, but many of them do. Most people steer clear, from what i hear the newer designs aren't having any leak problems when installed correctly. The older ones ( and knock-offs ) still leak all holy hell.

But if you get two and they are different valves you get two tones. Like a high and low on a horn. When you race the minivan and let off they will think they were beat by two Volvo driving pricks.

thank you for putting the proper perspective on things.

sounds like you need one of the intake as well.

Yea ^^^ an SRT vendor joked around on SRTForums that you should put a BOV on your intake pipe... one moron thought he was being serious.

Exactly. With Turbo cars the key is boost and tuning. The other parts (exhaust, cams, coil, intercooler) just let the boost and tuning do their jobs. BOV won't get you any more power, and an exhaust by itself might get you 5HP. Both will get your car one step closer to "mega powar cool ricer" sound or whatever. After you have an ECU (which will add a fair amount of HP, I think RICA T6 gets you over 300), you will benefit more from exhaust, but the BOV will still only be cosmetic.

wtf?

I think he was trying to say, "since you don't let off the gas to shift in an auto, you won't back up the charge with a closed throttle, and therefore the BOV won't go off when your auto upshifts, since you're still WOT". Which is true. Your BOV will only go off when your throttle closes. Which is usually when you're slowing down, making it basically cosmetic. woooosh.

sounds like you need one of the intake as well.

ROFL! Seems every couple days there's something on here that makes me laugh my ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD off, then makes me feel bad about humanity.
