Soaked Driver Side Floor Mats

DARKSIDE

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I came home last night and my dad told me that he was about to drive the car, but after a closer look noticed that the front driver side mat was soaking wet. He she that it might have been the anitfreeze leaking, however when I looked into the reservoir it was nearly ful.

Not only the front mat was wet, but the rear driver's side too...

I have searched and found out thatb most ppl link this sort of thing to Heater Core malfunction or a problem linked to the O-rings. But, can't see how would've affected both front and rear driver side mats.

Has this happened to Anyone else?

Heater core is located behind the radio and can leak onto both sides of your floor. When they fail, water on the floor is usually a good sign. A lot of people have had the same problem. Replace the heater core and clean up the water before it gets really nasty. Someone posted info on how to clean that up. Seemed to have worked for other people extremely well.

Hi

Heater core replacement is fairly straight forward, just make sure you have all the clips and hoses. Replacing the a/c evaporator is the tough one.

Check the liquid that is in your footwells, is it coolant/antifreeze or clear water? Clear water is a blocked evap drain hose, or spilt drink!! Antifreeze coolant is usually colored and smelly.

Just be glad you didn't lose all your coolant and cook you head.

What does it smell like? If it has that sweet anti freeze smell, well you guessed it ... heater core.

Exactly, before you replace it, make sure that it is your heater core. It should be green and smell sweet.

Both front and rear sound more like an open sunroof than a heater core, since it's only on one side.

After I dried it up I couldn't leave my sunroof open because of how late is was in the night. Furthermore, I'm not home right now to see if any more water/liquid accumulation has occured. But, I doubt it's the heater core, because I replaced it not too long ago (couple of months).

Anymore suggestions?

Sunroof was left open or one of the drain lines is clogged or disconnected. No sunroof is 100% water-tight, and they all have a trough and drain line set up to shed the water that gets by the sunroof gasket. If the drain lines aren't working right you will get a boatload of water in your car when it rains. And it will usually be much wetter only on the side with the bad drain line. Check the headliner for moisture as well.

You might also check the drain tube for the A/C to see if it is plugged. I know there is some sort of rubber drain tube under the heater core that I believe comes from where the wipers are, not sure so don't hold me to it but I know there is some sort of rubber drain down there. Make sure it didn't come loose. Just some more ideas to check.
