86boostedvolvo Posted June 7, 2007 Report Share Posted June 7, 2007 1986 volvo 740 turbo.....It is just beginning to happen that when i shift into 4th gear, the car automatically shifts into 5th without me having to hit the button, then, it wont let me get out of fifth. If this is not happening, then it will let me shift into fourth, but then never into fifth. I don't know if this is just the switch gone bad, or my knob is loose, or something actually wrong with the electrical system somewhere else any ideas or clue what is happening, please let me know Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The Nathan Posted June 13, 2007 Report Share Posted June 13, 2007 is the OD staying on if you go back down into 3rd? if so is prolly realy. if it stays on and gives you a "3 1/2" gear then its the solenoid on the overdrive unit its self... you should be able to find one of those off a junk yard car and swap it out Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
