C70 Double Din Action

Okay, so that's it. I can stand my C70's poor stereo state. I've posted before. High end is flat. Sound isn't crisp, blah blah blah.

I'm going aftermarket of the 100% variety.

Already got everything readyto order, just one thing popped up.

Volvo Double Din is taller than the standard Double Din size, and there really aren't any mounting options, besides cramming it in there with a cage on it.

Does anyone have any good suggestions, I've spent the morning reading posts already, mainly from people doing a DVD install.

I know there will be much wire running, as I'm pretty sure my problem is the stock amp. I'm looking at running the four subs on a sub amp, and everything else on a four channel amp.

I kind of don't want to do a single din, but if someone also knows of a good single din kit, that looks damn cleam, I could go that way. I've already picked out a single din unit, in case the double din is too much work.

dont know about the double din, but you're planning on running 4 subs off 1 amp? what size/brand of subs and what power/brand of amp?

i used to have 4 10" kicker L7's in my old prelude, and ran them with 2 amps (2 subs on each amp).

Oh yeah, they're the stock subs. And I may just run two of them.

The C70 has(I think) four 8" subs. Two on the rear shelf, and two in the doors. The ones on the shelf have tweaters wired in with them, so after I poke around, I may find it's easier to run those as regular speakers.

aah ok gotcha. you may want to see if theres a car audio shop around you that could offer some good advice on this situation. stay away from best buy and crutchfield, etc. because in my experience, theyre not much more than a bunch of -> :arob: :arob: :arob: :arob:

That being said, a professional car audio shop should have at least an idea about the best way to go about it would be....although they may need to see the setup to suggest a solution..... unless someone has already done it here on the forums and in which case could share some wisdom. :D :D :D

If the C70 is the same size as every other 2DIN volvo then you shouldn't have any issue. I used a 2-din Jensen in mine and it came with a trim ring that fits perfectly. In order for the HU to fit however, I had to use my sabre saw to cut out the "notches" the volvo retention system uses, meaning if I ever want to go back to the stock HU it will be difficult, and won't use the stock "latching" system. Once I cut these notches out went in like a glove, no problems whatsoever.

I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to do amp-wise, but wiring isn't too difficult (and the same whether you do 1 or 2 DIN, of course). I think the C70's still use the 6-DIN plug for their stock amps but I'm not completely sure. If they do it's very easy to make or purchase an adapter to use that amp with an after-market HU via the RCA's. Otherwise you'll be using a regular "wiring harness" + the HU or an after market amp. If when you say "sub amp" you mean a class-D mono or 2CH, I'd say make your life simple and stick to regular A/B ("full range") amps. If you find you only want bass frequencies, set your filters accordingly, but if you need anything above 200HZ, your amp is at least capable. There are many A/B amps out there capable of providing 200W or more per channel which is pretty much all you could ever push to an 8", stock or aftermarket.

I have two amps, that I should be getting 'eventually'(haven't shipped yet)

Mono amp for the subs that came in the doors and possibly rear hat shelf, depending on how the subs/tweaters are set up(crossovers or 4 seperate speakers?)

Then everything else is rocking out on a 4ch amp.

That setup sounds like a big mess, but I'm still not sure if I understand fully what you're trying to say..

I wrote up a whole lot but just deleted it. Long story short, stay away from a mono amp. You have no sub, you dont need one. I would suggest one two-channel for the rear deck and one four-channel for the doors.

You are right. My friend picked out the crap and when I he had read 'woofer' he thought 'sub-woofer'

So I'll be returning that amp.

so in the end, 1 4-channel amp and one HU.

I hooked everything up today. I used all the stock wiring making my own din-RCA and back again wires.

Sounds better. I can hear the high end again. Bass is fine completely flat, if I turn it up it's too much, which is good. And now I'm looking to buy some subs off of a friend of mine.

The Amp is an alpine just like the SC-901 is. The 901 is the surround monkey. I have no more surround, but it sounded like butt even when the stereo was fresh.

can somebody tell me the best way to install my double din tv in my s70?

Stick it in there?

Mine actually fit in just fine without moddifying the hole at all. I just wedged it in, and the rails hold it in place. Now I can swap back the stock unit no problem when I get rid of the car.
