Our "pimp My Ride" Truck Is Finally Done

well, some of you may know that I, along with my partner shops, got into a "pimp my ride" type of thing a little bit ago. well, we fianlly completed it, and i can now seriously relate to those people on those car building tv shows, cause over hte last week, i averaged about 18 hours of work a day :o

anyway, basically a local radio station sponsored a contest called freak my ride. where three teams of shops got three listener vehicles, 3 weeks, and 7000 dollar max budget to pimp out the car.

unfortunately for us, we all got cars that are more fitting to be on MTV's tv show (where the guys can work on the car at all hours, have a $20-40k budget paid for by mtv). whcih means totally junk cars...

our beast was a 1986 s-10, i didnt get too many good pics of it when it first came in, but a quick summary would be 8 differnet colors, 60+ dents, some major dents, bed rusted through, interior floor pan rusted through, no working radio, dash held in by one screw, no carpet, no trim panels basically, no headliner, four different rims, etc etc, (we found out later that the truck was bought for 400 bucks from a junkyard about a week before that :o)

anyway, you will see the before and after pics below, basically, due to the immense amount of body and mechanical work, i only had three days to come u p with some kind of stereo install :) but it turned out okay, and we got a ton of attention at the show - pittsburgh import fuzion, and I will find out tommorow if we wont or not...

some but not all of the mods on the truck:

full custom paint job yellow withe metallic orange and gold flakes

full air bag suspension

shaved door handles and tail gate

flame tint

custom exhaust existing through the center of hte rear roll pan

corvette style roll pan

apc racing budgets

billet grille

17" rims and tires

and much more...

my stereo was divided into two parts, one part int he bed for show, one in the cab.

cab:

panasonic ghost face mp3 player molded into the dash panel whcih also hold three guages

power acoustik dvd player hidden in the glove box

concept 7" screen in the glovebox cover

concept 4x6" coaxials in the stock dash location

concept 6.5" coaxials in kick panels

concept 800 watt rms 12" sub mounted backwards in a fiberglass center console between the two seats upfront

concept 5 and 2 channel amps in plaxi covered neon backlit amp rack behind the seats

bed:

six concept 12" subs in a sealed enclosure

four concept 6.5" coaxials

concept 900 watt class D amp

concept 15 inch flip down in a modified flip up toneau cover

ice cooler and mini grille build into the bed :P

a lot of neon strips, leds, lights etc etc

basically, it turned out decent for such a short time, and it sounds pretty decent, the subs in the bed with the tv and grille gots lots of attention, along with the huge jerk sub mounted upfront, as well as the air ride suspension...

overall, good show, but i dont want to do it again, it was so tiring lol...check out our custom made from license plate :)

sorry, i should have clarified hehe, that 7000 budget is based on total retail value of the stuff put into the car, no labor included

so basically, the wheels and tires we got a discount for 900, paint for about 600 total, 1500 or so for the airbag, 3000 or so for all the audio video and about a grand for the small extra accessories hehe

of course, we used for hte most time minimum advertised prices isntead of full retail, hehe

if a real customer came to do all this, i think they would get charged about 12-15k

oh and as for what the owner looked like, well, the kid who has the truck is 17 years old, but his mother came to the show early to see it, and i swear to got, she cried! :o, i mean, I though it turned out decent, but nothing to cry over...:) but then I found what the whole story, her son got screwd by a sleezy junkyard owner who happened to be a family relative, so he paid for the "great condition truck" before he had a chance to see it, and then found out how bad the truck is, and the kid used up his savings for it and it was terrible to drive around, and then all this happened, so now the mom is going to pay for the mechanical repairs at our place too so it will be on its way to being a nice little show ride...

our video guy took a crap load of pics through out the whole thign so i am sure I will have more better pics later on :)

That is so amazing! You guys did an awesome job!

I, wow. Congratulations on winning the competition. Do you have any photos of the competetors cars? I love the light show in the bed! I could steam compliments all night. You should submit that thing to SportTruckin magazine after an engine detail, that could be a cover car. I like that it's a car not everyone would think to trick out.

The story is very touching. Guess the kid gets the laust laugh, it's like Extreme Makeover! *tear*
