Ac Problem On S80

Oj to all Volvo fans!

Before I have AC problem (stop working after 30 mins, after few minutes off and then on - it blows - for 30 mins :( ) and I changed resistor and the damn thing still not working like it should. Blower motor is working - when I start car it blows like hell, and when it stops and I set to manual control and set at 4 lines it blows very well. Can still this blower motor be a problem? Averything else was checked and is working (diagnostic is not showing any problem). My frend was checking clutch from climate control (if I'm saying right) and it's OK, only thing that can be problem here is main climate unit (muchos dineros :( ). I can return resistor and change back my old one (next time in service) and frend tell me I can return even main climate unit (when I change for new) if still not working.

Funny thing is that I sell my old car for buying one with AC. <_<

OK I'm kinda lost here.....Your blower fan stops running or the A/C stops blowing cold air? From your description the way I read it.... sounds like the A/C stops blowing cold air and your evap is probably freezing up due to a low charge?

Well Smokin 855 was thinking the same thing I was thinking on your original post...He said perhaps the evap is freezing up and that's what i was getting at. Evap will freeze up on a low freon charge or possibly a faulty orfice tube in line.

I need to check evap then? Is anything else to check, because I will call in service to check the price and ask frend can he check this parts in my car. I'm asking you guys because my dealer is far away (400 km) so I need to know what they have to check. ;)

What you need to check is that the Evap temp sensor is reading correctly. This sesnor reads the air after the air passes throught the Evap. When the air reaches 5*C the A/C compressor turns off. When the temp reaches 7* or 10*C the compressor turns back on. This makes it that the Evap won't freeze. The sensor could be bad and read too warm making the A/c always on and freeze up the system. Also the Compressor could be getting to hot and causing the magnetic connection to the clutch go bad. With the car off measure the gap between the clutch and the pulley. If it s more than .5mm then you need to remove a shim from the clutch or replace the clutch. Has the car been checked out for codes? Check these out and let me know. Good Luck B)

Thank you very much on very detailed information. I will let you know when all is over and I hope that only this evap sensor is bad. I'm not planing this month to go to service (must wait next paycheck)... Thanks again Smoking'855 and MrWinkey. ;)

There is solution for quicker repair. Becouse my dealer is far away, they can send this sensor to me by post office. The trick is: How difficult is taking off this sensor and putting another? In Vadis it explain to first remove dashboard?!? Is this hard to do or I can do this? Another thing: In Volvo service they tell me that if I remove sensor the gas will start leaking? So after all, is this possible for me to replace sensor? Should I follow steps in Vadis and do it by myself? I'm not total noob but this car is space ship for me, but I'm very carefull with something new and if this is not rocket science I believe I can do it. Thanks in advance.

  • 3 weeks later...

Yesterday I got evap sensor by mail from my Volvo dealer, instaled it the same day, but didn't have time to terst it same day. Today I tested it a little (30 minutes of driving, maybe few minutes more). Hmmm, like AC now reads a few °C less in car (or earlier read a few more than it was, more likely) and blows more calm and with less noise. Blower motor didn't stop (or blow less) and its like the problem is fixed. :)

I have this problem allmost 2 years and don't just believ it's fix'd till long trip to home (3-4 hours of driving) to be sure it's working like it should.

For now let say it's working, so.... THANK YOU GUYS FOR ALL THE EFFORD. You can't even imagine how happy I'm to finaly got this worked.

Smoking' 855 and MrWinkey - thanks for tips about that sensor. BIG thanks to U 2 guys. ;)

P.S. On the end of this month or beginning of the next one I'm going to Volvo meeting in my hometown (400km) and will report how AC handled the trip.
