Help Me Listen To My Mp3 Player In My Volvos Please!

I have two volvos; s70 and 850. The s70 has a sc-816 and the 850 has a sc-810. I have an mp3 player (not an ipod) and am tired of the hassle of fm transmitters. My 850 has a cd changer hooked up to it (which I plan to not use if i get my MP3 player to work) and the sc-816 has cd changer capabilities. I am hoping to get my mp3 player working in both cars which halves my budget.

I need help from anyone and everyone on how to accomplish this. A 3.5mm jack that could plug into my mp3 player would be ideal, but i'd be thrilled with any way to play my mp3 player through the stereo!

Thanks sooo much everyone! I really apreciate it

before i posted this i had looked at blitzsafe a few times, when I searched it I had only found an iPod adapter, not to mention it was pretty expensive

Here you go. This one uses RCA jacks instead of the proprietary Ipod interface, but will work the same way. Just get an RCA-to-headphone jack connector also, and you'll be golden. FWIW, I don't think that $80 is all that bad a price, not to mention the sound quality will be tons better than an FM modulator.

I ordered my Blitzsafe IPOD adapter off that same website and everything went smooth and I'm quite happy with the adapter.

I'm a cheap guy, so you bet I looked for a cheaper solution. Unless you wanna deal with a tape deck adapter or FM transmitter, this $80 solution is a good deal.

Forget FM Transmitters. Waste of time. And your friends will enjoy being able to plug their mp3 players or IPODs into your radio too.

If ~$80 for the Blitzsafe is too much you could cut the ear buds off of a cheap set of head phones (the stock iPod ones for those with iPods) and then solder the cut end to the wires that carry the cassette signal inside the HU. You'll have to take the physical tape out of a cassette tape and use that to cause the HU to try to play the tape, which will allow the signal you're injecting in the tape signal wires to be played on your HU.

It's kind of ghetto, but it works.

LMK if you need more info.

I just survived with a $10 tape adapter until I could afford a new head unit. Those OEMs are garbage anyway. The sound quality with just a new head unit is so much better.

I got the Alpine CDA-9857 ($250 on ebay...I think the next model down that has Ipod control is $180+) and their $20 Ipod cable which connects to it, keeps it charged, and controls the ipod straight off the head unit. Worth every penny, and it sounds great despite the stock speakers.

Since you dont have an ipod though, there is another $15 cable they sell that has RCA jacks (KCA-121B).

My sc901 3cd has officially clocked out and i need a better option than a portable cd player hooked into the tape deck.

I was going to go with the 6cd changer but ive been reading a lot about the ipod/mp3 option on here.

I've got a couple questions i was hoping a couple of you all who are good with audio could answer. I went ahead and checked out the link that had the adapter at discountcarstereo.com and it seems like a very good fit.

The thing is i dont really understand what im going to plug the mp3 player in to. it looks like the adapter would go somewhere in the back of the stock radio? and then the rca-3.5mm wire would come out from behind that and hook up to my mp3 player??

If anyone has any pics of what a similar set up looks like or just some info on how you set up your mp3 player i would really appreciate it.

Also, if a video ipod was used could you watch a movie on it while listening to the audio through you car speakers?

-thanks for any info

that's exactly what it does

push the CD button the radio, and it becomes your input for your mp3 player

Yep.

Your CD changer input on the deck becomes your auxiliary audio input, and the plug will come out in the interior of your car where ever you like it to (this is probably the trickiest part of this install, though not very hard).

You can choose to purchase either an IPOD specific adapter which overrides volume control on the ipod and lets the deck handle this, as well as shuts down the ipod when you stop the car, and charges it,

or just the standard RCA jack with you can adapt to a 3.5mm headphone jack for other brand audio devices.
