toml77
Hi Everyone,My wife had to have the 2000 S70 towed home yesterday due to ignition problems. I cannot turn the ignition key and from what I have read from other posts it looks like I need to replace the tumbler. Does anyone have the instructions on how to remove/replace it. I have the procedure for the 850 but but the S70 is different. I cannot find any hole to depress the pin in the lock housing. I have not contacted the local dealer yet to see if I can purchase a new tumbler, but I will soon. Thanks for any help.Tom

Not a fun job

toml77
Ok Tom ...just for you You owe me a case of beer! http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php?showtopic=79518Great write up, thanks. I haven't received my new tumbler assembly (it's ordered and will take a week to get) and I have started to drill the bolts out. The drill is wandering into the softer housing metal. Can I destroy the old housing in the removal process? Does the new tumbler come with a complete new housing assembly? I guess I could call the dealer and ask. Thanks again for the reply. I' think I will hold until I get an answer.I'll buy you a case of beer if we ever meet up.Tom
MrWinkey
I'll buy you a case of beer if we ever meet up.TomOK then I will hold you to that even if it's 20years from now!!!! Yes the drill bit can wander a little. The housing comes in 2 pieces and covers the column. If your drilling them out, have a closer inspection and you will see how it is set up,or just have a closer look at the pic's I posted. You just have to get the old one off. I like to joke about it when I do one and say it takes me 1/2 hour to drill this out but it takes some kid under a minute to steal the car!
