I have the Old (1st version) of the Blacked out lenses with LED's with H1 bulbs in all 4 sockets. I have had to remove the headlamp assembly from the car ( didn't on any others of the installs) . There is a refracter cap for the low beam bulb that doesn't interfere with the bulb, but can remove it. My question is... In fact, I extended mine on one side to alter the pattern more to my liking.If you remove it you might have some strange glare problems. However, there are differences between halogen reflectors and halogen projectors and between halogen projectors and xenon projectors.If you are going to put HIDs on your car, the BEST way to do it is to retrofit a xenon projector in as well.
