What do you mean? do the pistons move in the cylinder?

if the rings are worn the pistons will move slightly sideways in the bore due the increased clearance. use your hand and push the piston sideways and see if it moves freely. ;)

I pushed on them. #1 moved but barely moved. Is any movement to much? I don't guess its to much more work to replace piston rings.

if it barely moved it should be ok for now. when they are done they move easily.

the tdc/ marks not lining up issue is something i've ran into before.... and it still confuses me. i set my motor to TDC on #1 and didn't worry about the marks on the oil pump.

hit me up on aim (i'm rarely ever on anymore) and i'll share what more i know.

you dont know why your timing marks are off but the thread is rediculous, go get a brain, read and learn something before you make stupid and dumb comments. you dont even know why your marks are off boobbrain.

Your marks are off boobbrain because by default the manufacturer designed the engine to be timed at the crank at 10 deg BEFORE top dead center so that at high rpm the spark does not fire when the piston is halfway down the hole. You set yours at tdc without finding out why the marks are out so you will lose power at higher rpms. You are lucky it wasn't something to fawk up your engine. Next time dont play smartass, ask questions. :P

okay mister, you need to get it through your head that the IGNITION TIMING ON 850'S CANNOT BE MECHANICALLY ALTERED! wiether or not i set the crank 10deg btdc or at straight tdc it does nothing with the ignition timing WHAT SO EVER. it only changes the static cam timing which in theory would retard the cams -5 degrees each (if the crank was set at tdc, not 10 btdc) therefore giving up bottom end and allowing the engine to actually perform better at higher rpms! so instead of coming to this forum and acting like a complete giant know-it-all asshole that thinks he is right EVERY SINGLE TIME just realize that you might be wrong and that some people have a little more knowledge about these cars then the common shadetree mechanic. in end i would never ask you a question because i probably WOULD fuck up my engine. thanks for all the help so far!

who said anything about ignition timing?bonehead, can you read? I ACTUALLY agree that setting it at 5 deg btdc will actually improve performance for reasons stated in the thread. read and understand.READ THE THREAD, WHAT IS THE BEST CRANK TIMING.harse hole.

and for your information, i am not always correct. i ask questions like everyone else.
