Noahkk19
In a couple days I'm about to take on this task, everything has seemed so much easier for the past week or so with repairing things on my own. If anyone else has taken' on this task, what would you say the level of difficulty is? How long did it take? And any tips? Thanks :)

Bay13
You can look at the post in the repair section for replacing the HUB, that will get you access to pull the drive shafts out. Once they are out, you will need Otikier (sp) pliers to properly tighten the bands that hold the boots in place. I've seen some use dikes to pinch them shut, but I'm not in favor of doing that. It's messy, and getting the outer CV section off is hard. You need to push the C clamp open and then knock the Outer CV joint off. I don't have a pic to show you maybe some else does. Next time I do boots I'll shoot some pics to help out.
Noahkk19
It'd be appreciated. I'm getting that horrible click clack sound when the wheel is turned sharply, I hope nothing else gives because the car has been driven in this condition... Bay13
If the CV shaft is the problem or cause of your click clack, it's from the outer CV part, and changing the boots is not going to fix it, you will need a new shaft.
Noahkk19
hmm, and I'm guessing it's not any easier than replacing the boots...
Bay13
Sure it's not bad at all, just pop the old shaft out and pop the new one in. Lots of places have rebuilt CV shafts, IPD has new ones, others can help out with resources for new ones.
Noahkk19
OK, thanks for the help, I should be fine now . And of course I'll come back with about 500 questions if I get confused or lost (Like usual)
Bay13
http://www.volvospeed.com/Repair/FWDbearingHub.htmAbove is the link for the hub replacement, by following it, you will be able to remove the shaft. Don't take the caliper off, you don't need to.
shurgen
it's easier because you don't have to knock off the axle. Beware of the driver's side shaft, it's hard to pull it out, get yourself a nice prybar that has a 90 degree angle and as you get to the point of pulling that shaft out don't pry the bar toward yourself, do it towards the engine. The passegner's side is easy to pull out as there is no snap ring that you have to overpower to get the shaft out on the driver's side. Good luck
850 Stylzz
can I just suggest replacing the axels? From what I understand ( have never done it myself, so dont quote me) , the price is almost comparable, and the job is actually a bit easier. Try raxles.com
ChrisStapleton
can I just suggest replacing the axels? From what I understand ( have never done it myself, so dont quote me) , the price is almost comparable, and the job is actually a bit easier. Try raxles.com←I replaced the left (driver's side) axle without much problem. Of course the repair section instruction about hub replacement was a wonderful help. I used a slinder crow bar with a 90 degree angle and tapped then turned the axle and tapped again and again.. and it snaped out without problems. I was actually amazed at how easily it came out. The new one from IPD just popped right in without problems. :D
grocerygetter
Noah I had a similar problem a few months back, I got some good advice here. ChrisR recommended a shop to get the new axle that is probably not too far from us. I on the other hand was lazy about the whole thing and sent it to my mechanic to be fixed. If you need any help, I may be able to help but have no experience in changing axle halfs. PM me if you have any more questions and I will try to help.
