Detailing Tips For Leather And Scatched Up Foglights

Recommended Posts

I just spent the last two hours cleaning and conditioning the leather in my S80 T6. Looks like the previous owner never maintained the leather. I used Lexol and it's not as great as I read or thought it would be. My leather doesn't feel supple at all. What leather products are recomended for my 01 S80?

Also, as I was detailing the trim. I noticed my fogs were murky looking and hazed. I think it was lack of care from the previous owner or too much rock chips. The headlights are clear though. Are the fogs glass or plastic? What do you recomend in terms of polishing them to get the clear back?

Thanks. :D

The stuff can't work miracles, you know... You did the right thing by using the Lexol. Now use it every week for couple months. Leather is a very durable seating surface. Just like it resists being penetrated by a spill (soda, for example), it resists being penetrated by the conditioner. Stick with it. But don't expect it to reverse existing damage as much as preventing future damage. Yes, if you've got some "tough" spots, wear-lines (that look like they could become cracks some day), etc, it should soften that up. But for the most part, this is about preventive care, not leather repair.

I think the best product is Leatherique. Reportedly, museums use it. Kinda pricey though.

That's a leather repair product and it's not really that expensive when compared to replacing the leather.

Leatherique also sells leather repair and restoration products, but I was referring to their maintenance product set, which includes Rejuvinator Oil and Prestine Clean.

YOU KNOW IF YOU NEED TO MAKE YOUR FOG LIGHTS CLEAR AGAIN YOU CAN USE A HEAVY COMPOUND ON THEM AND WET SAND THEM. BOTH OF THEM GET THE OXIDIZED PLASTIC OFF THE FOG LIGHTS. AFTER THAT GET A PLASTIC POLISH TO BRIGHTEN THEM UP. BLUE CORAL MAKES A PLASTIC CLEANER FOR CONVERTIBLE PLASTIC BACK WINDOWS

THAT SHOULD HELP A LITTLE BIT :)

As far as the foglights go, I've found Meguires "PlastX" works well on oxidized plastic. Can be had for $8 at the auto parts store.

Thanks for the tips, but the S80 fogs and headlights are GLASS. I will, however, take this advice for my Montero Sport, which has plastic lenses :P . By the way, what sandpaper do you suggest? 2000 grit?

Start at 600, wet sand, work your way from there.
